So where was all the "research and creativity" in the past. Your problem is that you assume that we are all as fucking stupid as you are. If NIBR had had any in the past you wouldn't be living on charity today.

I've got an idea - start producing something useful and shut the fuck up.

I've been saying this for years - if you don't have the stomach for the ups and downs of pharmaceutical research, get out of the business. Now our, sorry-my employer has done it for you- those variable business costs (reps) are being adjusted.

Research is not predictable - we follow the science where it takes us, at the speed it takes us.

Really sorry you didn't listen to my warnings from years ago - good buy.

Re: Time to kiss my ass and go F-yourself

Did you warn is 30 years ago? Did your warning include the fact that it was pervasive / industry wide? How does it feel to be correct in your prediction about the probable dismal failure of your career? I've got a prediction for you, soon a lot of you "scientists" will be doing science somewhere else - post Doc'ing at 2nd tier universities and high school science teachers.

What you don't understand is that we do understand that you have contributed SHIT in your entire career. And you be smug about the fact that you still have a job, but that can't last. The FACT is that NIBR was a VERY FUCKING experiment to answer the question "Why has research in Pharama failed ?" And NIBR and you are the answer. You NIBR has failed in an overly expensive and spectacular way. How does it feel being a part of one of and defending one of the most visible fuck ups in industry history? I suspect that with your flippant and benal responses your are a major contributor to that fuck up - hello.

    ------------------------------

Speaking as someone who was absorbed (for lack of a better term) into NIBR due to NVS acquisition of my former employer? I have to agree with the original post. We previously had a solid track record of turning out new drug entities and had quite a few very promising projects in the works. Those projects were rapidly killed by NIBR management because they (the projects) did not fit with the NIBR "vision" (read: management's pet projects), whatever that may be. Our experience and expertise meant nothing to our new overlords. Personnel were cut, projects were dumped, morale was lost. And our original, viable and robust pipeline met the same fate as the banana peel you tossed into yesterday's trash.

So, yes, I do blame management. Thanks for letting me vent despite that I'm not a sales rep, but simply one of your reviled research personnel.

There have never been any significant products as a result of NIBR's efforts.

Thank you very much, Donald Johns, for the empty pipeline. Way to go.

The pipeline across all of pharma is empty. Just like your arguments here.

Why Drug Development is Failing – and How to Fix It

"The new drug drought was highlighted in January by Derek Lowe, a pharmaceutical scientist who writes the influential blog In the Pipeline. He asked his readers to name the most worthwhile new drug that had been introduced since 1990. Of the many candidates nominated, the vast majority were brought to market in the first half of that 20-year span."

Dr Johns has failed but so has the NIBR model because they were tasked with out performing the rest of the industry and they have not.

Got a hint for you. Try and get out of the cloistered atmosphere of your lab a little more and you might have better grasp of reality.

While Dr. Donald Johns has woefully failed in drug development he was very successful in milking the company to the maximum extent possible. Excellent business model! This deserves a tell-it-all-book, doesn't it?

Oh, I think that it does. And if so, I think that there should be at least a chapter devoted to explaining that in the midst of NIBR's particular failure and the general failure of Pharma Research this "milking the company to the maximum extent possible." allowed each and everyone at NIBR to keep cushy jobs while not contributing SHIT to the company.

That is a logical consequence to be discussed isn't it?

Novartis to rein in pharma costs

A 1% uptick in pharmaceutical sales is not enough to spare the Novartis division from cuts, according to a February 12 note from Leerink analyst Seamus Fernandez. The analyst's source: a meeting with CEO Joe Jimenez in which the executive said Novartis has what Fernandez described as a “zero-tolerance policy for budgets that include declining operating margins given performance over the last two years.”

Up for the knife: pharma R&D . . . . “reducing what has historically been a relatively unconstrained budget in pharma R&D.”

Novartis has had its layoffs, as have its peers, but Jimenez's Leerink talk notes that while investors have paid attention to non-pharma business cuts, “90% of the business is not affected” by those moves and Novartis is determined to set goals pharma needs to meet if it's going to add air to its margins.

This "milking the company to the maximum extent possible." allowed each and everyone at NIBR to keep cushy jobs while not contributing SHIT to the company - holds only true for Basle NIBR management and its current boss - the rest was cheated on promotions, jobs and bonus and their carriers

NIBR overall, has never contributed shit you fucking moron. Novartis doesn't much of anything that you have ever produced.

That is what "contribution" means fucking worthless dead weight academic. Go back to post docking.

Re: Time to fire all the reps while NIBR develops the next thing

Do any of you shithead (intellectually challenged) reps understand what research is? ... Please, don't answer -- it's a rhetorical question- the answer is no. Our (nibr's) contribution to science is unfathomable to you because you do not possess the necessary I.Q. to understand what we do or what we contribute to science, research, medicine and (yes) drug development.

Please don't bore me with you're ridiculous bathtub curve analogy (that is really too sad to even reply to). The bottom line is, as managed care is more and more active, reps and less and less required ... Bitch all you want, research (NIBR) will save this sinking/stinking ship assuming the fuckhead (JJ) doesn't run us into an iceberg ... You gotta wait for it ... It's coming - the next big thing ... Put your good suit in storage at moms house ... It'll get ruined in your car while you wait- seriously we'll call you back ... Park next to a pay phone so you'll get the call.

Oh by the way ... Go F you selves...
