Smith and Nephew to buy integra Shoulder

S&N is not buying Integra's shoulder. They are eyeing Wright/Tornier. Doing so would fill a lot of product gaps and instantly make S&N not just a player but a market leader. That's why Wright/Tornier is consolidating operations in Memphis to be near their acquirer. It's all teed up. Besides, buying a lame shoulder with no sales from Integra makes zero sense.

After SN's failed PLUS transition, (promos shoulder) not likely they are going after an entire company for a shoulder. The cash isn't there for a big purchase anyways. Most likely they are looking just to pick off a shoulder that existing SN surgeons would use instead of losing auto cash to competition. The only requirement for SN would is reverse capability. Everyone would agree Tornier would be a great addition to any company, especially SN. I know SN reps would want Tornier over Integra, but if the price for the integra shoulder is to good to pass up SN will take that option and use it to try and convert those integra using surgeons to all SN products. The outcomes outweigh the risks with the integra purchase. Time will tell, won't be much longer.

For a few years now SN has been moving out of Memphis and taking the brass to Andover. When SN was all Memphis SN was growing and developing products. Because of the change to Andover SN is a divided company with nothing new to offer except small amounts of cash for other companies products. Stryker please buy SN.

S&N's problems are bigger than not having a reverse shoulder. They are a non factor in the rapidly growing extremity market. A WMGI purchase would be much more than just picking up a shoulder, it would fill their bag and give them instant credibility and market share - something they urgently need. Desperate times call for desperate actions. I hear sales are cratering in the ASD division at the moment. They either need to buy somebody or sell out to one of the other majors. They don't have time or expertise to buy a start up shoulder and create a market for it. It's not a S&N specialty and they have no one capable of running it.

there are so many SN reps already selling Tounier. Going after Integra would be a huge mistake. Just another product that would take 2 years to get in reps hands ,and only in limited quantities.
