Pharma Reps and DMs need not apply

Many device & other medical sales position descriptions actually say, Pharma Reps and Managers need not apply. Kind of like when the Irish and other immigrant groups came over way back when. What types of jobs do you think pharma experience would be good for in the new economy???

most of them are just good at doing what they are told..... actual selling they are incompetent at only because the company neutered them a few years ago

it will be interesting to see what they do, my hunch is they will be timeshare salespeople with the canned speech or insurance sales people trying to be financial advisors..... slick willies!

Nope. YOu have to be able to sell for insurance and timeshare sales. No, ex reps, good at telemarketing from a script.

AZ castrated their sales reps the second they signed the pharma agreement. We long ago abandoned selling for metrics. Now all "training" has become is nothing but 100% role playing a script. The LAST thing we are, are sales people. Also, blocking physicians unnecessarily, making physicians that have been called on for years ineligible for sampling, taking 3 weeks to send samples, and just general micromanagement has all but killed sales growth. Add on a pathetic pipeline, and you have a recipe for catastrophe.

It will be all over soon for a lot of us. IF, you survive the first round of layoffs, you probably can look forward to 5 or 6 more in the next few years.

The day Zeneca got involved years ago the company went to shit.

Anyone have the guts to ask a senior leader this question at a meeting, in front of a group?

Hey Tony, why is it that other companies advertise that they don't even want applications for their open sales positions from former pharmaceutical representatives?

I've seen the 'no pharma' tag with the on-line job postings....majority (maybe a slim one) of us know how to sell but our real day to day pharma lifestyle is now widely known and about 50,000 resumes in recruiters email inboxes has only confirmed it..

Eveyone's resume looks the same..top 10% market growth, DM appointed district blah..blah..Winner of goofy contest name...Pres. /Circle / Pinnacle/Gold Star... winner back in 2007..energetic..team player..buzz word..buzz word...Specialty! ..

Good luck if you're looking to get out, but it is really is a great gig if you stay and appreciate things outside the job.
