New US head in 2022?

Following the recent BIO board meeting in Berlin, it appears big changes are in store for the U.S. sales organization. In a sign that the board has lost confidence in the U.S. leadership following the presentation of the Q3 sales numbers and with the prospect of closing the year above targets dim, the board voted to authorize a search for Walters’ replacement. The goal would be to make an offer by end of year and to have the new President in place by mid-Q1 of next year. Someone close to Ryan has also reported that for his part, he’s retained Russell Reynolds to help him find his next post. How this move might impact other leaders brought in during his tenure is still anyone’s guess, but the board did not reserve their criticism for Walters alone, signaling that there may be more transitions to come. No word yet when any of this will be announced internally, but rumors have been swirling for some time changes were coming.

PN - Are you off your meds? This is obviously written by you. RW should handle accordingly.

Just in time for the holidays! So who would we like to see replace Ryan Walters as the new BIO U.S. President? It would be refreshing to see someone promoted from within who deeply understands our corporate culture including how to inspire people. Not saying we couldn’t benefit from external talent, but the folks Ryan hired over the last few years didn’t do much to bolster his credibility as a leader. Ryan talked a lot, used all the right words, but I never got a feeling this guy was genuine. I never felt that he cared all that much about us or this company. That was made rather clear after what happened last year in the Midwest. You can tell a lot about a person’s character when they are so obviously attempting to save face.

Promote MP, he is talented and doesn’t bow down to the Bio extremists.

Exactly who do you suggest to be 'promoted' from within? 99% of the people in leadership roles were placed in those roles by RW.

Biotronik - USA as a company is a dumpster fire. People must keep in mind that it is a distributorship not a corperation.

Their prducts are no worse or better than anyone else's. Can an individual go work for them and make some cash? Yes. If you have access and physicians willing to work with you... Yes, you can make some cash.

Back to the initial point.... Their coperate structure is a joke. Regardless of the titles that Brown, Jansen, Woodstock and Walters have held over the years, it is Max that holds all of the power and I do not think his expectations of the market in the US market are realistic.

BTK does not have a cardiac portfolio as MDT, BSX and ABT have. They do not have the leveraging power to sit at the table with the larger GPOs and IDNs and demand market share. They are a CRM company and will not be much more than that without huge $$$$$$ investment which requires shareholders.

They are what they are and will go through leadership changes every 3-5 years.

Yeah, that was unfortunate. Hard to see people get blown out for nothing more than politics and ego. HR is weak in this company and basically does what leadership tells them to do as opposed to standing up for the employees or at least moderating the conflict.

I disagree. Allison Hicks is really strong and smart. She is setting the company straight

I never had a problem with Ryan personally but some of his leadership decisions were head scratchers for sure. And I think it’s obvious he favors his own hires.

I think Ryan would be more well suited for a role in a big publicly traded company. You need to be far more creative, flexible and trusting/empowering of your team to lead an underdog like Biotronik to growth in a hyper competitive market like the U.S.

Agreed. There has not been a lot of mutual trust established between Ryan and the reps. And from what some of the Lake Oswego folks have told me, he’s developed a generally negative reputation in house as well. Some of the criticism is well deserved, like the lack of promotions, title only promotions or freezes on backfills. Other complaints are groundless like the current battle over the plan to reopen the Lake Oswego office - sometime people just have to suck it up. Who knows if someone new will be able to do a better job, but I guess it’s worth a try.

Dude, Ryan’s not going anywhere. If anything they might bump him down to Spees old position and hire someone above him better able to drive strategy and bend R&D toward development of products that have actual value for U.S. customers. Ryan should focus on getting and maintaining contract access and driving field performance.

You honestly think he’ll stick around if he’s demoted?

Whoever writes this nonsense is clearly trying to cause disharmony.
RW has done an incredible job leading the organization through a global pandemic, and delivering results at the same time.
We get it, hide behind your keyboard and spew your diatribe.
Always easy to take shots, not easy to lead.
The negativity smacks of a disgruntled person or two.
Fine. Move on to cleaning up your own message board and your own house.
Know for a fact, fact, that your references are just plain not true.

The Fellows team is the only reason Bio is able to maintain a presence in the US. Almost all of the top implanters were educated on Bio during fellows programs. Everyone knows this to be the case.
