All reps have lost their value in recent years. The market for medicine has changed. So too has the market for labor. You're all on the chopping block, even the InVentiv folk, They'll ultimately be $35K delivery people.

35K delivery service......hmmm, guess the pipeline will be golden, no problems, no snafu...

'Cause the bargain basement types wont jump so fast on getting out those official words and webcast solutions.....

In the end, you get what you pay for...

I am always amused at the gap between a "good" rep and a bad one. It's like splitting hairs...a whiskers difference. And the reps who were fortunate enough to hang on to this gig - you aren't better than the people that got axed. You just had a better bag assignment. You were lucky your products didn't make the FDA's cutting room floor.

Still - I recommend this phony, skill-less job to nobody. When you get thrown out and your youthful good looks have turned into middle-aged reality and you hear people asking how you actually made an impact (even though your brag book is loaded) then the reality sets in.

This struck a chord with me - how I made an impact. I'm 56 and filling out a job app that asks me to list the 5 major impacts I have made in the work that I have done to date. Oh boy.....talk about splitting hairs:)

The truth is that in Big Pharma no rep has security and job performance offers ZERO protection in tough times when the layoffs occur. I was talking to a rep at Endo that had just gotten back from their top award trip on a Sunday and on Tuesday she was laid off. I found examples of that happening with Endo and lots of other companies in the pharma sales world. It didn't matter who you were or what you had done at AbbVie if you were in the cardio division as you lost you job. The total lack of security and proper pay is one reason why so many reps in pharma are taking 1099 positions on the side. Its very easy to start earning some high paying residual income with your top physicians and it only takes a few minutes. You can even start your own LLC so that the income never shows up if they do a background check and it allows you to write off a ton of expenses on your income taxes. The big thing now is the compounding pharmacy sales arena treating pain & wounds. Reps are earning 10K and all the way up to 40K plus a month which is way more than anyone ever made working as a traditional big pharma rep. If you want to learn more I will be happy to give you some very helpful info about this sales arena. tisley at chartertn dot net

How many scripts do you need to earn that kind of money? Lets say you wanted to earn 15K a month, how many scripts would a rep need? Is that new scripts or does it include refills?

With Supreme Medical Solutions you can earn about 28K a month for 20 scripts a week. So if you can find 20 physicians to write 1 script per week weather it's a new script or refill you could be earning about $28,000 per month. It doesn't matter whether the script is new or a refill they all pay the same with us unlike some other competitors.

Gotta love this GIG! My golf game has drastically improved this year. Getting closer to my goal of scratch handicap. Don't know if I will get there but I do have plenty of time to play doing the 15x15 thing.

In the last few weeks I have been twice golfing not just out of my territory, but actually out of the STATE with my buddies. Go ahead and take away my NMIP points, I will find other ways to incentivize myself. One week I did not work AT ALL! Just checked VM, emails and faked all my calls. Having very smart friends in technology has it's rewards!

Tonight is like a Friday night even though it's Thursday because I have not worked a Friday in many, many months. Gonna play 36 tomorrow.

Have a great weekend everyone!

scumbag has reappeared - and you all wonder why your job is coming to an abrupt halt

After all the field rep takeaways, lack of leadership and BS, Merck is just getting what it deserves. The "Work harder for less, you should be lucky to have a job." mantra isn't playing anymore.

Don't worry, when cutbacks are announced there will be reps cut that worked 50 hours a week and actually thought this was a real job and that Merck actually cared about them. They are called fools.

You are lucky you do not have a territory where you do not have to have toll receipts, parking receipts or whatever otherwise the idea would not work if you had to prove where you were. Maybe that is why the ipad has locations services.

Work don't work, whatever. I don't really understand all the: "I'm really putting one over on mother and Merck gets what it deserves" sentiment. What makes you think they care what you do anymore? Ther're only managing the decline of what was, once a great company. If there is one thing that should be obvious is that Merck salespeople no longer matter and no matter how much you think you're ready that layoff phone call is always a bit of a shock isn't it? But it sounds like the "15" guy has his new career on the Hooters tour all planned. Or maybe its just a fry cook at Hooters? Whatever. "You want fries with that"? Should be the new "detail" he practices.

If you don't understand then you don't understand...and probably never will.

I'm making more money than my DCO right now and I'm doing it on Merck time. If you don't understand that, I can't help you.

And as for the "shock" of being let go. Well, that's not going to be a problem for me. And it sure isn't going to be a shock. Can you understand that?

What's to understand? You're a blow hard and a braggart, the worlds full of 'em. But you keep coming on here bragging about how much you make ( ah but will it be enough when the axe falls?) or how much golf you play or whatever. Who cares ? Get over yourself. Move on. We have.

1. It's already enough.

2. You're only about to "move on". Good luck with that.

In general people don't brag about stealing.

I disagree about the part about the "field rep takeaways". Merck was making too much and the reps were pampered. We hired bunch of them who did not know how to sell but were great in organizing parties. Then that was stopped because Merck began ethical. Many of those reps, now without the big bucks to spend, did not know how to sell. They discovered they had zero rapport with the staff without the bribes.

Even if all the takeaways were undone, most of the recent hires still cannot sell anyway. Most are dimwits with pretty faces.

Sales in this field and all the other things attached to the rep job make it a tough and demanding job....in actual work and the hours we put in...

Its much harder than sitting behind a desk, pushing papers or being a banker, nurse, teacher, librarian, accountant, psychotherapist, candlestick maker...

You must do it as we are intended to do it (yep, without any "15x15, cheat the system philosophy") to really know the truth.....

Once someone has "work the system" attitude they are worthless to any company...

You are a Kool-Aid drinking fool. This drug rep job is among the greatest farces in the history of employment and a complete idiot can do it, as we've been proving for years.

To say this job is hard illustrates what a complete moron you are. You wouldn't knoe what a real job is like if you think there is anything real about this one. Good God, we hire the dumbest people on the planet, you among them.
