Is Covidien firing/laying off a lot of people?

I'm thinking of interviewing with Covidien, but have heard some pretty bad stories about what its like to work for the company.

I live in a major Metropolitan city with a big health care market and many reps in the hospital systems have said the leaderships is poor and changes every 12 months and that the company is very disorganized.

I've also heard that the culture is not geared towards helping the reps out on the street and that leadership has no clue what it takes to get new products into hospitals in the new economy.

I've also heard that the Company has been firing/laying off many qualified individuals throughout the organization to cut back on costs.

If so, I don't think I'd want to interview with the company.

Honest feed back on these main points would be appreciated.

Thanks so much.

Yes, many good people were just laid off, after the National meeting. I'm sure now they feel even better about attending the National Sales meeting a month and half ago.

From what I hear some of the people (sales support) were redundant. You had one guy hire directors and was a director just lots of overhead. Sucks when people lose jobs over stupid decisions that are ego driven

Titles don't mean anything up there in NH. So they get rid of directors with years of experience dealing with the people in the field and corporate. They tried to be the voice of reason and looks what happens. What are you left with? Number crunchers who are going to look for more ways to cut costs. Where is the operations group reporting up through now? Did anyone hear?

Covidien is cutting cost and laid off some good people, because their not growing as much as they hoped they would. This should have been factored in 2 years ago.

There has been a lot of lay offs, cutting costs to improved the bottom line most likely.

Not sure why they moved into their big, new, really expensive facility.

not all Covidien, covidien in Boulder is doing very well and growing . Depends on theGBU. Problem was surgical in CT is poorly run with bad leaders who never told GBU pres Scott flora the truth, he is responsible but do was his direct reports, hopefully Flora is fired soon

Fired or not, he's made his money, probably millions. He prob doesnt care one way or the other. If he gets tossed, the Company probably has to cough up more, probably millions to him. He might not have accomplished a whole lot, but he's got us all beat. He''ll probably be laying in a hammock on a boat if he gets pushed out. Must be a tough life.
