It's what I have been saying for the last 10 years. Sales reps are now out sourced to contract. It just makes good business sense. Shared risk, a huge talented, experienced sales pool for pharma to utilize. Declining patent life for existing name brand products , dearth of new therapeutic entities and the ability for CSO to deliver on key metrics and a disposable sales force. The reasons are legion. " dedicated" sales forces are now obsolete. Managers too. Put up a talented, experienced sales force take it down PRN. Pharma now requires flexibility and that's just the the way it is. Pharma reps, comfortable, complacent don't like it but get used to it or get out. Merck is actually late to the party.
