Two Life Science Accelerators Announce New Lab Space

December 14, 2018

Two programs (one in the US and one in the UK) offering life science companies lab space and access to capital and advisors made announcements about lab space for seed and early stage
bioscience companies.

In the US, Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. (NYSE: ARE) announced the opening of Alexandria LaunchLabs at the Alexandria Center at One Kendall Square. Located in the heart of East Cambridge's Kendall Square, known as the world's most innovative square mile, the dedicated 20,000 square foot seed- and early-stage incubator opens with more than 10 highly innovative seed- and early-stage member companies. Each company was diligently selected from a highly competitive and very strong applicant pool, the size of which confirms strong demand for the Alexandria LaunchLabs platform as well as its prime location at the Alexandria Center at One Kendall Square's iconic entry plaza.

Alexandria LaunchLabs in Cambridge builds on the company's proven platform, which was created to satisfy seed- and early-stage life science companies' major unmet need for highly flexible and cost-effective turnkey office/laboratory space, as well as for access to strategic seed-stage risk capital through the Alexandria Seed Capital Platform. More information about the new space can be found here.

In the UK, Bruntwood SciTech, announced a $12 million investment to develop over 50,000 sq ft of laboratory facilities for life science at Alderley Park in Cheshire. Dr Chris Doherty, Managing Director of Alderley Park, said: “These are the first labs we have developed at Alderley Park and are ideal for smaller life science businesses as they expand and grow. We see a lot of demand at this end of the market for high quality lab facilities and we have a unique offer not only in terms of specification but also our ability to provide access to a community of like-minded businesses.

The Alderley Park Accelerator, operated by life science incubation specialist BioCity Group, provides bespoke programs of business support which include access to investment, talent and an extensive network of entrepreneurs, key industry figures, and senior executives who provide expert advice and mentorship.
