Fewer pharma job cuts so far in 2017

Challenger, Gray & Christmas’s August Job Cuts Report indicates that 2017 has been a better year for the pharmaceutical industry in terms of job losses. In the year-to-date 2016 losses had totaled 7,001. For the year-to-date 2017 losses are only 5,494. 

However, job losses may be on the rise. Job losses in August of 2016 were 389 while losses in August of 2017 were 689. 

We checked with a spokesperson at Challenger, Gray & Christmas to find out how the data was collected. The numbers are compiled from news announcements, press releases and state WARN notices.
