US patent website has Xeljanz molecule patent expiring in 2020.
Is this the time that other companies can challenge the branded product for a generic version?
Every link inlcudiing the US Patent Office, has Xeljanz molecule expiring in 2020 and generics competition 2020.

A foggy futureWhat's Pfizer's best hope going forward to avoid the same type of struggles that have plagued it since Lipitor's patent loss? The company needs ballyhooed drugs such as blood thinner Eliquis and immunology therapy Xeljanz -- a drug that first loses patent protection in 2020 -- to come through. Both Eliquis and Xeljanz have been hyped as potential blockbusters, but both have gotten off to slow starts. Star vaccine Prevnar, Pfizer's second best-selling pharmaceutical product in the first quarter, also needs to keep going strong, particularly after seeing sales slide in 2013.

When Will a Generic Version Be Available?
The first patent for Xeljanz is set to expire in December 2020. This is the earliest predictable date that a generic version could become available.
However, other circumstances could come up to extend or delay this exclusivity period, including such things as lawsuits or other patents for new Xeljanz uses. Once the patent expires, there may be several companies that manufacture a generic Xeljanz drug.

Who cares? Unless a 10mg is approved, it's worth nothing.

Get this through you heads - the benefit/risk ratio only makes sense at the 10mg dose and we didn't get it approved.

At 5mg, there's just not enough efficacy to justify the side effects, organ toxicity, herpes, etc.

A generic can't come fast enough.

Apparently you are not even involved with the company mentioning 10mg????
Xeljanz 11mg was approved last year as once a day, so your comments are N/A.

Original post is correct. Just looked up US Patent office website. Even though the company is selling 2025 as patent expiration, that fact is Xeljanz patent expires 2020 for generic challenge. Some patents go as far out to 2025 from US gov.org patent office. But the actual molecule that can be generic challenged expires in 2020. The company is probably trying to retain top talent from going to other divisions if the reps knew the truth that they need a new product in 38 months or be laid off like all the previous 1 product divisions Pfizer has had over the years that dangled that golden carrott up until a few month before X day. (Opthamology, Psych, HIV, Neuro, etc-- all elimated with patent exp). Pfizer has a bad track record of defending early generic entry and court challenges going all the way back to Neurontin, Procardia, Celebrex, Lipitor, now Lyrica--all lost in court against early generic challenges. Xeljanz is mirroring the exact same path and leadership selling the exact same story as past terminated division.
Reps in the division need to look at other divisions or another company as the company will not look out for their best interest. I'm surprised Xeljanz reps do not know this very public information of 2020 expiration and bolt for Oncology or new Dermatology divisions.
You have 38 months to find another job as there is not another pipeline agent until 2025.

Holy hell I hope you don't work for us! Do you understand we sell 5mg BID in RA? The 11mg just approximates that. The US PI allows for dosing of 11mg QD.

What we needed was the 10mg BID. The 11mg QD doesn't compare to 10mg BID. We need either 10 BID or 22 QD you simple minded sales rep.

Surely you don't work for us.

What an idiot. Do you really think the 11mg once a day has any relevance to the missing 10mg twice a day? No wonder we can't make our number.

I didnt know Xeljanz only had 40 months left! Company been saying 9 yrs left. You are correct goverment patent website does say molecule patent is 2020. Shocking but not surprised. Reminds me when I was with Opthmology selling 2 billion drug. We lost patent suit early than expected (like Pfe always does ) but was told at 2 billion yr with just 100 reps we were most profitable division in Pfe & have nothing to worry about. Even 4 wks before surprise layoff announcement, HQ was touting how great division it was & this was division to be in. VP said that on nationwide call 3 weeks before layoff announcement they were collapsing division cuz pipeline was 2-3 yrs out next product.
Xeljanz sounds like same song & dance, hiding elements of the patent 2020 is not good!

Not suprised, typical Pfizer transpiracy & self serving. Reps should have jumped to Derm & kinda their own fault for not researching patent office & knowing Xeljanz LOE. Its only product they sell so reps have no one to blame but themselves for only having 38 months before no product to sell. They should have known better when leadership was downplaying the Derm positions. Heck Derm is specialty grade 13 so that should been enough by itself.

Xeljanz management & HQ just telling 2023 cuz some patents in tablet go to 23 24. But they are not telling anybody on the team the 2020 molecule patent. This is when generics can come into the market on the molecule patent expiration. Xeljanz basically has 3.5 yrs before generic. We all know how successful Pfizer is fighting these generics. They never win including latest Lyrica loss a few wks ago.

Why so suprised, Pfizer has been doing this exact same thing at least last 15 yrs.
They stretch truth on patent life taking the farther out patent date using that with the reps. Then 3-5 yrs before when actual molecule is challenged and Pfe looses, they spin it until the ver last few weeks saying "lawyers confident in defending" only to loose time & time again. Then they try to keep reps engaged to stay with division to squeeze our every last million of sales. Saying going buy product or co market or get products other divisions to sell---only to announce collapse of division & layoffs. Anybody with Pfizer 20 yrs knows this from Neurontin, Zylatan, Celebrex, Lipitor, ect all lost patent on molecule date .
Its same song & dance upper management does. Have they address any of this with Xlejanz reps? My guess is NO but i bet your DMs know about it. Upper management want to avoid adressing it expecially when other divisions are hiring.
Good luck but this ride is ending 2020 like all the previous products before it

Can Xeljanz leadership, Vic, John quit hiding by ommision the molecule patent of 2020! Seems like all mgt & other division of pfizer know its 2020 as nobody good is interested in any Xeljanz vacancies for 4 months then get severed from a 1 product division. Gov.org shows everything so leadership should also! Come clean w the truth & stop squeeezing us for more billions

Derm Eurisa sure looks good now with same pay & bonus for a 13 year patent.
Have 38 months to find employment , Pfe changed severence few months ago to just 1 wk pay for each year of service (was 3 wks)
Probably preparing for Lyrica & Xeljanz layoffs next few yrs
