Initially, the plan was for the voyage to be made in two vessels, the other being the smaller Speedwell. The first voyage of the ships departed Southampton, England, [5] on August 5, 1620; but the Speedwell developed a leak, and had to be refitted at Dartmouth.

On the second attempt, the ships reached the Atlantic Ocean but again were forced to return to Plymouth because of the Speedwell's leak.

It would later be revealed that there was in fact nothing wrong with the Speedwell. The crew had sabotaged it in order to escape the year long commitment of their contract.

After reorganisation, the final sixty-six day voyage was made by the Mayflower alone, leaving Plymouth, England on September 6.[5] With 102 passengers plus crew, each family was allotted a very confined amount of space for personal belongings.

The Pinta (the "Painted") was fastest of the three ships used by Christopher Columbus in his first voyage across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492. The new world was first sighted by Rodrigo de Triana on the Pinta on October 12, 1492.

Pinta was a caravel-type vessel. It was square rigged and was smaller than the Santa María, weighing approximately 60 tons with a length of 20 meters and a width of 7 meters. The crew size was 26 men. Captain of the Pinta was Martín Alonso Pinzón.

The other ships of the Columbus expedition were the Niña and the Santa María. There are no known contemporary likenesses of Columbus' ships. Replicas of each of all three ships exist, the best-known of which is the "sailing museum" Niña, built in 1992, which has toured the world continuously since then

There wasn't 3 ships that made the maiden voyage to America with Columbus?

    The Pinta
    The Santa Maria

Wrong. The Nina, Pinta, and the Santa Maria were NOT from England. The Mayflower sailed alone. Those three ships were from Spain. Don't the names sound Spanish to you? C'mon guys. This is elementary stuff here.

In 1492 there were 3 ships that sailed with Columbus: Nina, Pinta, Santa Maria. THOSE ships did NOT sail to Plymouth. They were on a voyage to sail around the world.

The Mayflower landed at Plymouth in 1621, followed by the Anne and the Little James. THOSE are the first 3 ships that landed at Plymouth.

    Hope that helps.

You should be asking what dsi and the ship that started it's voyage on April 10, 1912 have in common?

For once an intelligent post, and a very good use of an historical event to illustrate the woes of DSI. My question is, is DSI the Speedwell or the Mayflower!
