step by step, everything you currently do will be turned around. What little of old Alcon remains will soon die a slow death. Speaker activities and sales interactions (especially in the OR) will look TOTALLY different.

The last 2 posts are pretty accurate. Expect it all to change slowly over the next few years.
Think about this...surgical reps no longer even have samples of lenses for God's sake, they're getting closer and closer to pharma guidelines, and their goals are just as screwed up as pharma's.
Now watch what happens so pharma samples, speaker events ect. All will be a thing of the past.

Speaker events are terrible so glad to see them go.

You are exactly correct. The intention is to have only CAS who report into medical affairs in the OR. This is why base salaries will go up, and variable compensation with decrease. Gone are the days of the EMs making huge $$$$.

    and here it is

How We Are Implementing Step Change

In the U.S., the Step Change initiative is being coordinated cross-divisionally by KM, Vice President & Franchise Head, U.S. Oncology, who is also leading the charge for the Pharma Division. She and her team are working to operationalize five workstreams with specific mandates:

·Performance Management – we want to measure and reward our associates with a focus on both performance and integrity, so we are revising the process for determining compensation and bonus payments for some of our sales associates, in line with our V&Bs.

·Build & Reduce – we intend to stop some promotional practices and introduce new ways to educate doctors and patients about the value of our products, with an eye to delivering greater benefit to patients.

·Function Change – we will build additional capabilities in our integrity and compliance teams as they continue to help the business to make the right decisions, in real time.

·Culture Change – as we evolve some of our promotional practices and build new capabilities on our strong foundation of integrity, we will support our teams along the way with the tools and training they need to be successful.

·Communications – we are actively encouraging our leaders to communicate clearly about the importance of integrity to building a future of sustainable growth. We will also provide clear and timely communication about the implementation of Step Change, so all associates understand how it affects them and what they can do to make it successful.

This might seem like a lot of different objectives under one initiative, but if you look closely you’ll see integrity – and the trust that flows from integrity – at the core of each of them.

    Steady and Realistic Change

We plan to set realistic milestones with Step Change. In the U.S., we are focused right now on two important areas: Performance Management and Build and Reduce. In terms of performance management, we are looking at our incentive plans to make it clear that how we achieve our sales targets – in line with our V&Bs – is just as important as what we achieve. You’ll be hearing more about this from your leaders in the coming weeks and months.

Regarding our promotional activities, educating healthcare professionals so they can make informed choices for their patients remains an integral part of our business. But, we need to evolve our approach as it relates to certain activities such as promotional speaker programs to ensure greater focus on demonstrating real-world benefit for patients. This ties directly to meeting the evolving needs and expectations of stakeholders while also “going the extra mile” to do not just what’s required of us but also what’s right.

You’ll be hearing more on this from your Division leaders over the coming months.

Step Change and the Future of Novartis

I hope you share my enthusiasm about what Step Change can mean for Novartis and our future. It will allow us to reinforce our commitment to integrity and compliance for the people and communities we serve. It will position our company as a leader in integrity, setting the highest standards across our industry. This, in turn, will help us deliver strong, sustainable performance. Step Change will empower us to stand out from the crowd for all the right reasons and feel proud about what we do and how we do it. Look for more communication with details about Step Change in the weeks and months ahead.
