Are HDQ people getting ranked like this? Sounds like easy method to layoff next round. 1,2,3.

wow, it's my first time on here and i can not believe how many people are complaining and totally ungrateful to be employed at merck. this self entitlement on here is sickening. i personally believe we have a great job with a great company. open your freaking eyeballs people! to make a 6 figure salary you are among the top 10% highest earners in the United States, not to mention the car, full benefits, etc. we are paid extremely well to do a job, that while it can be challenging and there have been a lot of difficult changes recently, also provides a lot of benefits and satisfaction. this career has enabled me to provide a wonderful life for my family. there are millions of people that would love to have this job. and they would be grateful for it. for those of you who keep b*tching and complaining, why don't you do us all a favor and leave. you have no clue what "bad" is, so many of you are spoiled, your attitudes suck and you're ungrateful. it's people like you complainers that contribute to giving the industry such a bad wrap. whine. whine. whine. why don't you just shut-up and go work or get out of here and open up some space for the people who will gladly put in a honest day's work and a little gratitude.

very well said and i agree 100% there are so many ungrateful people who dont appreciate what they have...easier to complain than be positive.

What can a new Senior rep with over 15 yrs pharm exp should expect as a base salary?
    Thanks.

First time on here? Where have you been? How many years have you been doing this work? Those so-called "entitled" whiners are often hard-working individuals who have spent many years in this industry and are upset with its demise; and, if on this thread, upset with Merck's way of handling the sales force (i.e., subjective "people multipliers", mysterious "calibration", unpublished rankings, once a year bonus payout, just to name a few). If it wasn't for the money and benefits (and all the years already invested), most wouldn't put up with all the demoralizing bull***t. You call it whining, I call it "telling it like it is". And no, we won't shut up! If you don't like it, get off Cafe Pharma!

At first it was going to be only ten S3's then it went all the way down to seven and when finished they found S3's for every ass kisser in the region! A bakers dozen where did they find all of those or were they available all along and everyone else not to be placed were lied to! Even job share ass kissers got S3!

What country do you live in? If USA what state? Where I live costs are rising much faster than my THOUSANDS less that 100K salary. My territory alone (and I am 1 up) was worth over $3,000,000 and with all the craziness in the news it's a miracle that I made plan. This is the hardest job I've ever had. Managers scrutinize everything you do. You could make it on your base + bonus but there is no way you can make it a whole year. The office staff whine about the lunches, the HCPs bark at you and your "co-workers' have to step on you to get a promotion. 99% of us suffer migraines and are on antidepressants. The raises don't make up for the cost of the personal miles on the company car plus the stress of keeping the little old ladies from hitting it in the parking lot--tell me why I am responsible for them hitting me while I'm in the car trying to order food for a lunch with hcp and is staff of piggies???! I ask again where in the hell do you work and what do you do--let me guess sit in a cube and look at porn all day.

Some managers are good, understand and not trying to pull you down and demoralize. They see the years and skills that people can bring. But not all managers are the same. They can have different levels of skills and their personal BS, but everyone is accountable to mangement.

Am one who is grateful to be here and to have a paycheck, but sad at the turn this has all taken and the lack of encouragement and thanks for our personal contributions.

Very well put. In this unstable economy, who is not grateful for the paycheck and benefits? But that doesn't erase "the ugly". There was a time when a pharma rep was treated as a professional (vs. micromanaged), and properly evaluated/compensated (i.e., objective measures--like "numbers"--was the focus, vs. subjective and questionably relevant "competencies"). In this current environment, a manager can totally make or break you, whether it is deserved or not. Glad I'm near the end, and not at the beginning of my career.

Delusional? MBA, 15 years, multiple awards, 2 pharmas on resume or BA and 5 years, only job? Placement?

And you are nothing but a classless punk! Can bearly wipe your ass, but expect the world to be at your feet. Your peers and customers can see right through you...and it's not a pretty picture.

Call it what you like but there are tenured reps that have not had an impact with one friggin account but globally! Handled training, worked conventions, managed district and regional counterparts and been there when other reps needed an ear or a sholder! We've become so anallly focused on one account because someone can impact that account and change them like MERCK wants them to be, when in fact they've done nothing! We are not providing solutions for shit and when Singulair goes generic they'll use the generic 1st! They don't like us and they'll take whatever we give and then lock you out of the building! Someone at Merck is smoking the same 'weed' that Vagelos smoked back in the day when he thought that 'we're Merck, everyone else ain't shit and that will suffice' and we went from America's most admired company to the 'outhouse'! If anyone thinks that Merck knows what 'culture' is then they need to be admitted to an institution for the criminally insane! Now we've tossed out those who got us the profits to invest, we'll be a 'Pfizer' soon enough!

So what do docs want. Young babe, Mr buff or older, settled type. You can find them all, but docs dont usually like the flash and laugh types for long. Plain, settled type who are dependable and intelligent usually win for the long run.
