What is unfortunate is that other companies in pharma will look at the Novartis model and say "they are doing it so it must be smart/financially prudent lets hire the same consultants and have them "fix" us to"

Big Pharma is Valeant personified. The only difference is in the -just below the radar - corruption and greed coupled with a massive lobby that allows Big Pharma to get away with it. Valeant over-reached.

Novartis has to pay $390 million in fines...now that is an ethical company we can get behind.

Then Joe blames Alcon for bringing their Q3 earnings down! Nice.

"But Alcon continued its slump, driven by declining surgical equipment sales and generics competition. Jimenez said an Alcon recovery plan would be unveiled in January."

"It's a good business but it's suffering from some intense competition, as well as we have not been as innovative on Alcon as we should be," he told Reuters. "The plan that we are going to unveil in January ... will play heavily on the innovation front."

fuck JG ... in his world heroes and zeroes are defined by performance every quarter but the same yardstick doesn't apply to him. Nelson in China was a hero 2 quarters back now he is kicked out.
How does he blame people for 2 quarters of poor performance and takes no responsibility of his failure of 7 quarters.
Why is Sandoz suddenly doing so well and Alcon so bad !!! Can he explain that to the investors ?
enjoy the circus with him and his other RP clowns (except Jim M )... while it lasts I am out 8f here

re above- J Jimenez is about to put the blowtorch to JG's belly 1st q 2016 seems like a deadline
quote from this week from JJ about the Alcon poor performance

I think we’ve got a -- definitely a lower tolerance for under performing businesses. ...........our focus is going to be, it’s building that near term growth acceleration plan. And if we don’t -- we do intend in January to lay out what the plan looks like and also talk about how we internally are going to look at milestones in terms of improvement on that business.. And if doesn’t improve, then we got a different conversation.

Markabi killed 5 years of Alcon innovation. Because the development cycle is 4-5 years the consequence of having this buffoon heading Alcon R&D and ruining the pipeline are just starting to hit Alcon. The worst will come in 2016-2017. NVS destroyed Alcon no less than Valeant has destroyed B&L. Watch NVS getting rid of Alcon in the next 2 years piece by piece.

    Indeed From Jimenez
I think you could see elements of M&A in terms of peeling off underperforming parts of Alcon or adding to Alcon if there were other bolt-on opportunities.

watching these guys run Alcon is like seeing a bunch of monkeys playing with the chainsaw... the outcomes won't be very different.

The asshole just loves jumping on the stage and showing how great he is and quick in accusing others for his failures.
Won't hesitate to point fingers at employees who have built Alcon over 15-20 years. Mr George all these guys have a far better track record of performance at Alcon than you !!!

You don't need to pay M(Fu)ckinzie, B(ullshit)CG and Delloite million $$$s to understand that ... Ask the customers they will tell you that. The KOLs even talk to you today because of the reputation built by these men and women. RESPECT IT.

Problem is Novartis overpaid for a company bereft of new product. So your vaunted Alcon team? Shysters

A laser that's not selling and an IOL that died in delivery testing. Probably not what they expected. Plus more people are going to dailies so the bottles of water aren't selling as well. That's why they're pumping a quarter billion into Ciba.
