Great hire for a future company split! GSK Consumer will be a great company once the split happens.

The future is with consumer, makes sense why they choose her.

Lots of housecleaning to do in R&D. Let's accelerate the departure of the Vaccine Chairman, send PV back to academia to perform fruit fly research, and bring in folks that know how to develop medicines.

Looks like she was chosen to continue the shift to consumer. What does this mean for reps? I think not much good.

Maybe they are planning an R&D shuffle, a la Parexcel. So reps get transferred out of GSK (maybe inVentiv in this case), then 6 months later *BOOM!* everyone let go. It was a great way for them to let longtime employees go and avoid big severances, etc.

Read people. Just read and listen to what the business community is saying. They are saying that she was selected in order to continue down the same path AW has placed us on. No divestiture or breakup of the company. Pressure for the Pharma division to improve on sales. Under AW we launched 13 new products and never made a profit. She will receive pressure to license and co-promote other products in the Pharma space. She will have decisions to make around do we or do we not launch a generic Advair. She will be given two years to put her plan in motion. There will not be much change for the rank and file as long as profits are stable. However, if we see profitability decline, all hell will break loose. Divisional sell offs and layoffs. But not any time soon. So sit back and give the lady a chance. I think she may be what the doctor ordered. I hope!

Listen, this lady has a strong background in consumer. She's gonna get all kinds of pressure to split. She can easily lead a succesful consumer.

Pharma has so many battles to face right now. Generic advair, generic spiriva in the near future, other pricing pressures, and much more.

Interesting post. Regarding the 13 new products, six came from oncology with the sales of these exponentially increasing each year. What does "Sir" Andrew do? He sells off the most successful unit. After getting hammered by the financial press and investors, he claims he still supports innovative medicines and cites the remnants of oncology that remain. Can his knighthood be revoked? Kick him to the curb now, let Emma run with the show.

Try negotiating formulary access without an oncology portfolio and only crappy "me too" drugs. - Coupon Jack

75% of revenue comes from the Pharma side of the business. I know, lets hire a CEO with no Pharma experience. Seems odd...

Revenue, the investors have a company in consumer who can be a solid company with its portfolio that has room to grow. Pharma has revenue but also has to dodge expiring patents.

We all seen what happen with a solid company in AstraZeneca almost getting bought out by Pfizer. Don't think for a moment of this generic thing hits really hard that there won't be any reactive measure taken.

The consumer ceo was picked for a reason. Perfect safety net to save incase of chaos.

Interesting, kind of like hiring an R&D chairman, currently Vaccine Chairman, that has 75% of a normal brain
