Some people drive to work. Others take a commuter train, subway or bus. There are myriad ways, after all, to travel to Pfizer’s corporate headquarters on East 42nd Street in midtown Manhattan. One exec, however, preferred helicopter rides and that expense, among others, caused a dilemma for ceo Jeff Kindler who, for a time, wanted the drugmaker to pay for such luxuries, our sources tell us.
In the midst of ongoing cutbacks, which are costing thousands of Pfizer employees their jobs, Kindler late last year believed various expenses incurred by several execs were justified. One example - the weekly helicopter commute that Mary McLeod, Pfizer’s senior vp of human resources, would take to and from her Maryland home.
Executive travel on corporate planes is regularly charged to companies, of course. However, several members of Pfizer’s staff pointed out that not all of the expenses could be justified as wholly related to business activities and the info should be reported in the annual proxy. This left Kindler with a difficult choice - disclose such payments at a time when Pfizer is laying off employees or require the execs to reimburse the drugmaker for a portion of the expenses that couldn’t be justified.
In the end, several execs were handed bills. McLeod, for instance, was asked to reimburse Pfizer nearly $300,000 for her helicopter commutes, our sources say. A Pfizer spokesman declined to discuss specifics, but did send us this statement: “Across Pfizer, every expense is being reviewed. From the manufacturing floor to the executive suite, we are committed to leveraging every dollar.”

There she is, flying a freakin helicopter to Pfizer headquarters from her home in Maryland. Shouldn't she be required to live in the area she works in just like the rest of us????????????????? Who in the world does she think she is, the Queen of England??????????

While Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary takes her helicopter ride to work many laid off employees are wondering how they are going to make ends meet.

What about Kindler and his alleged family airplane rides in the corporate jet to Florida. Is he going to have to pay that money back as well???

 

This is just the beginning.


As more and more Pfizer employees get shoved out the door....more and more information comes forward. Soon everyone from down to the mail boy's and janitors will be spilling the beans.

Nobody can trust anyone. Meetings are hushed, many are held off site for everyone is afraid of being recorded.

The overall vibe in this company is paranoia.

Do you think that she will REALLY pay this bill??? If she had approval from Kindler to take the corporate helicopter to work than whose fault is it????? Perhaps Kindler should take responsibility. From the information in the article, it sounds like he approved it but was recently backed into a corner.

Who thinks Kindler should pay the bill himself (out of his own pocket) or who thinks Mary should pay the bill?

 

Obviously Kindler knew about her daily commutes and did nothing about it.(unless there is information that we do not know.) Suddenly he felt pressured because he had to make it public? Hello?

Why is she now popped with this bill? Who approves the use of the company helicopter, planes, limos, etc???? I don't think we have enough facts.

Did Kindler support it then renig?

 

I think that we should interview the pilot.

Did she actually get picked up at her home or did she drive to her local airport to catch the copter?

Did he land on top of the company building or did he land at the airport where she then took a limo or cab?

 

This same "story" is posted on more than one companys board with various names changed. Is someone spreading a myth ?

They always said don't do something stupid that ends up in the news and gives this company and our industry another black eye or you'll be fired.

Well what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

What a disgrace. So long...

 

I bet she will get away with this. Pfizer will refuse to comment and will give it time for everything to quiet down.

However, in reality this should be investigated just like it would with any other employee of Pfizer.

Did she fly over her 20 hour max?....only her pilot knows for sure.

Someone should publish the pilots log. It would be very interesting to see the flight log for all the Pfizer fleet.

Was she "written up" did she write a check out of her personal funds or did it come out of some budjet?

This deserves more attention.

 

I want to see her score on "Decision-Making" on her annual review. Massive WASTE!!! We could have paid for the salaries of TEN reps with the WASTE of this woman! SHE IS NOT WORTH IT! SHE HAS NOT HAD ONE THOUGHT THAT IS WORTH $300,000 DOLLARS!!!!!!!!! SHE SHOULD BE FIRED AND SO SHOULD HER DUMBASS BOSS!

With the millions she made at Pfizer she's enjoying a pampered life and will never have to work again. This is the capitalist system in action - the 1% get rich regardless of how they behave........and Americans wouldn't have it any other way.
