Will Merck shrink integrated delivery system sales force?

Agreed. Somewhat of a good thought (in theory) but not so well implemented nor people chosen. Much like MAE's. Such a waste of money yet people are being downsized and these shits sit at home everyday. Good luck Merck!

They won't be here next year. Most are looking for other jobs now. The smart ones are.

Not true, they work hard. They make cameo appearances at meetings, set up 1-2 conf calls per week and will occasionally buy local reps coffee. Always upbeat and smiling.

100% spot on...most of the Merck workforce probably qualifies for the
    bathrobe brigade at this point...

How many minutes per week do you think these people actually spend with customers?

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Ricky Hartz and Jimmy Hall are smarties. What is the merit of the account managers calling on IDS? If there is no profit why do we do it? To be nicey with customers? Not righto?

Is that the game called "Commercial Model"?

They get rid of my sales force and keep this group with little impact.

Amazing that we spend a bucket load of cash calling on IDS

The reality is Pharma is behind the bandwagon in developing c-suite relationships. EVERYONE else in healthcare has a seat at the table and that's what this group is designed to do. Decision making is becoming more concentrated amongst executive levels of management, whom we need people to know. B2B relationships are strategic long-term sales relationships that rarely yield quick returns, but you can hit some homeruns if you're patient. Lastly, competing priorities within these systems (patient safety, Joint Commission, new technology, M&A, managed care contacting, etc, make the "sale" more challenging.) The titles may differ in other companies, but everyone is following suit and defining/refining their value proposition for customers (decision makers/influencers). Your time is better spent supporting your IDS partner with information that's productive and helpful for them to advance the business, it's team work!

This is an absolute joke....what is patience? This botched experiment has been going on for nearly 10 years. Great idea. Poor implementation. Except in rare instances, there is no advancement of business or relationships. As a matter of fact, our relationships in AMCs continue to erode -- that is why many of the IDS AEs are running to the community hospitals/systems where they can get access - they haven't been able to open any doors ("C-suites" or others) in the large systems. The IDS relationship with the field makes everyone feel that they are just checking off bullet points on their MBOs. Bob and Adam -- is anyone measuring ROI here? There isn't any. Give the actual reps that see customers a few more tools.

Company owners and legal ask why gargantuan sales regime does not call docs or contract with the catering services of the IDS

Merck makes so much money that they have to create these account executive jobs to spend the money or Ken Frazier will get another salary increase.
