We all know Crestor is going generic in less than 4 months, but what's the plan moving forward after that? Leadership/management keeps saying that they have been expecting this and have a plan. What is it? Crestor accounts for almost 1/3 of US sales. There's no way that we lose that much revenue and it doesn't impact the sales team and the entire organization as a whole. I know we won't lose that entire book of business overnight but we definitely won't need this many people. Is this "plan" just a well kept secret or does management really have their heads in the sand on this one?

Look at history. There's a plan, you're just in denial as to what that plan will be.

My guess is that AZ will expand it's sales force sometimes this year. Frenchie thinks the ovarian cancer drug will be the Holy Grail for AZ, so he will definitely expand ONC. We have no CNS drugs when XR goes. Symbicort will face Mylan's or Teva's generic Adair with an approved device sometimes this year. Diabetes has so much competition, probably more so than any other TA, that they will see amazing pressure to grow. Crestor's profit will take a nosedive, as will profit overall. Still, AZ likes the fact that we are running all over each other out here, with duplication of effort going to a new level. ROI really means nothing to them. We all know, deep down, that they could layoff 50% or more, and not miss a beat.

Nobody knows what the plan is. Time will tell.

The plan is to lie, deceive, and keep the masses calm and working until the very end. Only they know the exact date but the groundwork has already be laid. They have been forcing people into early retirement or chasing people out for several years as a slow erosion at the top. Our time is coming. Count on it.

Now, Sanofi is planning big layoffs. Every single major company has had layoffs, or multiple layoffs since we did in January 2012. Who knows what will happen. I just don't see how it can be avoided. Be ready.

Crestor will drop 90% within the first 3 months of LOE.

Look back at what Pfizer did when Lipitor went generic November 2011.
For the most part, those CV reps were shifted into other primary care slots. Many into women's health.

One year later....mass layoff. Most of the experienced reps who sold Lipitor are gone.

There will certainly be a shake-up at AZ by the end of '16. Prepare yourself.

The real trend is to use a down turn in sales as justification for eliminating low performers and higher salaried tenured reps to further reduce current and future costs. The goal is to keep the average tenure under 6 years and maintain a younger, less expensive sales force. That includes management. Look around at meetings, how many people over 50 years old do you see?

I work in H.Q. and can vouch for this. They seem to be targeting anyone over 50 and or with 10+ years of experience. But their favorite targets are people who qualify for the Zeneca legacy pension. They seem to hate that the most.

One who meets the previous post qualifications here, do you think it would help to wear a target at the next meeting to help them identify me?

If this is the case, and generic Crestor hits market July timeframe, look for Warn act to take effect early May? But I'd doubt very seriously any reductions. To have 23B in sales...2023,will require mass hiring,to be competitive in the marketplace .

Think you need to revise that sales prediction from Frenchie from the $23B you mentioned, to $45B he mentioned. Nobody believes that AZ will actually hit $45B in sales in 6 years. Nobody knows about the much often predicted layoffs you read about here on CP, because nobody has any real information. By mid 2017, we will have lost Crestor, XR, and Symbicort. A generic Advair will be on the market this year as well, putting more pressure on Symbicort.

Just keep on working 15 to 20 hours a week, look for another career, and be ready in case something does happen. Remember, it's been 4 years since our last layoff. A lifetime in pharma sales. We are definitely due for a massive layoff.
