Can we actually compete with them once they work out the growing pains? From a corp point From a distributor point From a product point I say no
Given the disaster that DePuy has become and the lack of leadership, I would agree that they can't compete. Zimmer Biomet will have some growing pains but they will work through that. Let's not forget that the Biomet leaders will be running the show and they are the best of the best. Biomet chooses the best people and empowers them to do their jobs. They value their sales people. You get where I'm going...
You want to know what's going on take a look at 510ks. 2015-1 510k Attune press fit 2014-2 510ks global unite , pinnacle liner line extension 2013-3 510ks corail approved for hemi hips, line extension 36mm heads, sterile screws for gription TF augments Biomet has had 6 this year. Zimmer 4 this year Stryker 2 this year (1 is cones for revision knees and they also bought mako last year) Smith and nephew 3 this year It's even worse when you compare back to 2013 with those companies. Since 2013 we have basically gotten a 510k for attune press fit and global unite. you always hear about new product projects and things they are looking at but when it comes to actually doing we are getting beat by our competitors. It makes you wonder if buying Synthes made us too big and slow. It also makes you wonder what some of those product managers are actually doing. How many years has it been and we are still trying to figure out how to work with Synthes. so no if we continue going the way we have for the last few years we will continue to loose market share in shoulders. We will probably stay around market growth on hips and knees or possibly loose a little.
Relax...the big three have too many products to sell. That is the last thing I want to see is a new product on my quota. If I didn't ask for it, I should have the right to omit new products from my quota.
