The stark reality of income relates to being grossly over paid when we are in early career and not so much in mid-career. When in your early thirties without children or spouse, it is great money. Marrying late in life, I thought I was the cat's meow for about five years. Throw in 2 children and an average mortgage payment and the income is average. Just average. Move into your mid-forties and it's not much. (Did / do not carry consumer debt and live within means).

It is all relative Big money equals big brains, big drive, big bills, big problems and big head aches. Stop on your way out the door, look around. Pharma people do not live one bit above the average Joe. Our neighbors are generally professionals - teachers, police, computer science, banking. (Sister is a tenured public school teacher - 80k / benefits, pension, short-days and works 81/2 months a year, not too bad)

The average person will not become rich working for someone else (minus CEO, BOD). We have a community chalked full of multi-million dollar homes. A friend is a high end real estate broker. I asked who lives in the homes? Not one of the homes was owned by an "employee"
9/10 were inventors, sole proprietors, developers, ect. Not all were hi-tech or fancy either.
Two of the nicest homes are owned by families that sell shoes and one sells garden fertilizer (steer poop in a 20 lbs. bags) So what do you do for a living? I sell shit.

I realized when I starting buying crap to impress someone it was evident that I was trying to impress people that do not care about me or even know. It get pretty shallow, pretty fast.

Enough is enough. This thread stops now! 100-150K is NOT a good income. Get it? It is very average and above minimum wage (barely) in California. Those are the facts papi! When you start making that every month, not year, then you have a point. Until then shut the fuck up!

Just because you can't hang with the wealthy in the Bay Area doesn't mean $150,000 a year is chump change. Who are you trying to keep up with? Good luck with finding a job that pays you $500,000 a year. It's harder to do than you think. Do you really think that money is all it takes to make a person happy?

#1 Don't put words in my mouth I never said. I never said it's chump change. I only stated it's average and above minimum wage, barely, in California. Asshole! Number 2. Anyone who says money doesn't make you happy doesn't fucking have it!

You are really stupid aren't you? Minimum wage is $15,000 a year and $150,000 is ten times that. It's obvious you don't understand basic math. $150,000 a year makes me happy, I have everything I want. I have a friend who makes $650,000 a year, he has been divorced twice, is estranged from his children, and drinks himself to sleep every night.

Why don't you stop being a horse's ass?

Always fascinating that when someone is called out for making a stupid point that they can't respond without foul language, because they have no other defense to their argument. It's like the tough guy at the bar who has to scream above everyone else, or turns things into "let's take it outside".

Why does everyone think that this is a great income. It's not, add in a couple kids a mortgage and a car for your wife it won't go far. I just don't understand How you have all been so brain washed.

    Dear OP,
so you want to own a home in Newport Beach, Santa Barbara or La Jolla, have 2 kids, have a stay at home wife & make more than 110K. Easy get a 2nd job or a job where you actually have to work 9-5. Oh wait it’s probably because you can’t get a job doing anything else. I’m surprised that you even made it in this industry for 6 years with a mouth like yours. It seems like anything you don’t want to hear you resort to using foul language to compensate for your inadequacies. No one is forcing you to stay in pharm getting paid 110k to work a few hours a day. BTW no one has been brainwashed they just can manage their money better.

It's not a great income but it's not a bad income in this economy and it is difficult to find jobs that pay much more. Yes, I know plenty of people who make more but $150,000 a year plus company car plus 401k match plus reasonable health insurance costs is enough to live on well in most parts of the country omitting Washington DC, Manhattan, and San Francisco. It does not go far if you want a new car every few years for the wife, private schools for the kids and an extravagant lifestyle but it is a good, solid living.

You are the IDIOT! You don't even know that San Francisco has its own minimum wage at 20K or $10/hour do you? And yes $150,000 per year is barely (which is what I said) above minimum wage for here when the average house is 880K. Dumb ass. Learn to read and keep your trap shut.

Clearly you are a self entitled arrogant homosexual. The only good thing about the dmeise of the USA, which will happen if Obama gets re-elected, is that those like you will be forced to face reality. We won't have to pay for you any more. Hallelujah.

And you deserve an average house, right? You are entitled to it, like everyone else in utopia. This is AMERICA! Not only does everyone get free healthcare and food (stamps), but everyone is born to a world where they deserve it to be as good for them as anyone else they may envy.

    16 T + in debt later......

Any place that routinely re-elects someone like Nancy Pelosi deserves what they get. The fact that she has served your area since 1987 is all anyone needs to know about the people of SF.

People people! You are all missing the point! We are grossly underpaid for what we do and the amount of education we have. Is it fair that a plumber or garbage man, who are only HS grads make almost as much, and in some cases more than us who are all, at a minimum, a 4 year college grad? Is it fair that some of us have graduate degrees and a union fireman with 20 years experience makes almost as much as we do?

We have clinical conversations with doctors, move literally millions of dollars worth of product for AZ every year per rep. We are ethical and provide a valuable service to healthacer. Yes we only make 100K to 150K per year. It's just not right!!!

We are worth what the market says that we are. There are more than enough people capable of and willing to influence (yes, sell) prescribers for 100-150k per year that you cannot command more. IF, and a big if, companies could not find the people they wanted at this price they would pay more, or promote their products another way.

Simply put, they don't pay more because they don't have to. The compensation matches the education and experience required to do the job.

Talk of 10% commission on 2MM dollars in sales in ridiculous as we don't bring in checks, but influence behavior, and their are more than enough people capable of doing this for the compensation offered.

Why is this ridiculous, all of us have titles of PSS's. Which means they consider us sales specialist. And don't tell me this crap on we don't actually sale. I have moved share aka sales every year I have been here. I know I increased the revenue of my territory by 500 K last year. Why shouldnt I get the 50 grand from that in commissions and another 20 k in bonuses for destroying my goals. Again this issue is all the the tenured reps have been conditioned to think that this job is great pay etc... It's a great starter role but by no means is this where I will end my career. I have loved this company for what I have gained and learned. I have been fortunate to have great managers who have actually developed my career. I will be leaving the company at the end of the year. Just waiting for my training class with my new company. Guess what to, in this company I get a portion of what I move on top of my bonuses, that's how it should be or change the title away from a sales role. Think for yourself and don't be a lemming.

Some of you people just do not seem to get it. For those of you who want to be millionaires, this is not the career for you. Some of us realize that money is not everything and that having time with our families is very important. It is not right or wrong...it is what's right for the person. This is not the place/industry to change the world and be a millionaire. Good luck to those who want that. I prefer going to work and having time with my wife and kids. I am not 25 years old anymore looking to change the world. I max out my 401K and am appreciative of what I have. If you do not like this job, leave. There are plenty of others ready to replace you. Good luck either way. In regards to series 6, 7, 63. I have been there and done that. Good luck. You are a dime a dozen. No one is giving you a million dollars because you look nice in a suit. Also, you will be selling life insurance before you know it as you are motivated by those up-front commissions. The grass is not always greener my friend.
