    Government involvement is going to make a strong argument for getting government out of the business of medicine. We're all about FREEDOM here just like the founding fathers intended. American government was NEVER intended to be lead like drones. NOTHING is more greedy than government.

    I used to think that the US Constitution was a work of genius (in part because I was taught to think that). The separation of powers, and the checks and balances, seemed to make a lot of sense. But having observed its operation over most of a lifetime I am now convinced that it is much too difficult to modify, and it doesn't adapt well to changing times and circumstances. When Americans realize that the Constitution is missing something, such as a equal rights for women or a right to privacy, it's almost impossible to get it passed. (The fact that the Equal Rights Amendment remains unratified is a pretty severe condemnation of either the amendment process, the American public, or both.) The British constitution isn't as good at explicitly guaranteeing rights and freedoms, but it does move with the times.

    One thing to think about is that the US Constitution doesn't say anything about the Supreme Court having the power of judicial review. They simply gave themselves that power with Marbury v. Madison, and everyone agreed to let them have it. But that was after the Constitution was signed. I think if the original authors had realized that the Supreme Court would have such a profound impact on the rights and freedoms of all Americans, they would have placed term limits on their tenure. In my opinion, they should be limited to one 10-year term so that we don't get stuck with a bunch of ancient fossils who are out of touch with the daily lives of ordinary people.

    Similarly, the filibuster is a profoundly undemocratic institution that ought to be banned. The recent gridlock in Congress has been an utter disgrace. There should be a constitutional amendment to get rid of this, but again, it's very difficult to pass anything.

    You're wrong when you say the British constitution has no procedure in place for constitutional amendment. Parliament can amend it at any time through ordinary legislation.

    So, The Supreme Court can make things Constitutional and "authorize" things that are NOT contained in The Constitution? Whatever The Supreme Court "authorizes" is ok and is just part of "checks and balances"? That's how you think this works?
