Are you being harassed or bullied at work?

    Early Signs of Bullying

You know you've been bullied at work when....

    Experiences Outside Work
    • You feel like throwing up the night before the start of your work week
    • Your frustrated family demands that you to stop obsessing about work at home
    • Your doctor asks what could be causing your skyrocketing blood pressure and recent health problems, and tells you to change jobs
    • You feel too ashamed of being controlled by another person at work to tell your spouse or partner
    • All your paid time off is used for "mental health breaks" from the misery
    • Days off are spent exhausted and lifeless, your desire to do anything is gone
    • Your favorite activities and fun with family are no longer appealing or enjoyable
    • You begin to believe that you provoked the workplace cruelty

    Experiences At Work
    • You attempt the obviously impossible task of doing a new job without training or time to learn new skills, but that work is never good enough for the boss
    • Surprise meetings are called by your boss with no results other than further humiliation
    • Everything your tormenter does to you is arbitrary and capricious, working a personal agenda that undermines the employer's legitimate business interests
    • Others at work have been told to stop working, talking, or socializing with you
    • You are constantly feeling agitated and anxious, experiencing a sense of doom, waiting for bad things to happen
    • No matter what you do, you are never left alone to do your job without interference
    • People feel justified screaming or yelling at you in front of others, but you are punished if you scream back
    • HR tells you that your harassment isn't illegal, that you have to "work it out between yourselves"
    • You finally, firmly confront your tormentor to stop the abusive conduct and you are accused of harassment
    • You are shocked when accused of incompetence, despite a history of objective excellence, typically by someone who cannot do your job
    • Everyone -- co-workers, senior bosses, HR -- agrees (in person and orally) that your tormentor is a jerk, but there is nothing they will do about it (and later, when you ask for their support, they deny having agreed with you)
    • Your request to transfer to an open position under another boss is mysteriously denied

I agree. People or Corporations act certain ways because they think they are untouchable. The only way they will change is to file a lawsuit which in many cases will force change. My suggestion is NEVER, EVER CALL THE BPO with your name attached to a complaint. Don't trust them. Call a attorney for advice

Sad, but true. I complained twice to HR including once in the presence of the offender about being bullied. All it got me was being terminated. I subsequently found out that Novartis has an anti-bullying policy, but no one from HR or management enforced it.

Typical Novartis cover-up to protect the organization and hide bad management.

Are there any examples of Novartis employees filing lawsuits because of bullying?

As pointed out many times, your best defence is an offense. To be able to do this you must find, collect, file any evidence of your company's misconduct, of which there is plenty. When you have more than enough irrefutable evidence of their crooked ways, you are in a driver's seat.
If anything bad happens to you, I mean anything like bullying, as in this case, you have the ammunition to defend yourselves and win. Yes you may be out anyway, but you will walk away with huge settlement, sometimes in millions.
All you need is that evidence a good lawfirm and you may even go as far as getting DOJ on your side, fuck these bastards and walk away with award for doing the right thing.
At the same time if you are a victim of bully, it is obvious you must also collect evidence on this too. But your key is the evidence of your Co's crimes that are going on on daily basis.
If you can't see it, it means they are hidding it well so you must make a stronger effort to uncover the cover up. It can be done and it has been done.
Read the "whistleblowers of novartis and BPO, at least to learn more.
Remember in today's business environment, your co is no friend of yours. You owe them nothing, including any loyallty, for they are loyal to no one except to themselves and shareholders. Not even to country of their origin, Switzerland let alone USA.
So just do it and be safe.

Harassment is systematic and an established part of the management culture at Novartis. HR is extremely nervous about it as they do not want the truth to become known to the public. According to your experience, who is the manager with the biggest bullying issues?

You better believe they bully us. And guess what? The biggest douche bag bullying asshole has just joined our company. Jorge "the Spic" Luna is now leading the Critical Care group. I worked with him at Astellas and trust me, this guy will harass the shit out of someone in order to get them to quit. "he's only helping you" will be his mantra.
If you have to work with him, call in sick. If he wants to talk to you, take the day off. If he makes an unplanned trip to your city, beat the shit out of him. He's a despicable piece of human excrement. Jorgie, you are a fuck!

Jorge, please do the world a favor; DIE!!!!!

"Employees of the World Unite". This should be a slogan for ALL of us who are working for smeone, even those making hundreds of thousands on top, but still working for someone jobs. Have you heard of Proletariat? Yes you have but you think they are the bad guys and you don't belong with them. Wrong. But then that was in the past, when your ancestors were fightinh for living wages against the evil capital.
Today, things are different but still the same. The evil capital is even more evil and in the last 30-35 years has devastated the middle and working class everywhere, including your very own U S of A.
You working for bigpharmafia and this Co are still OK, but you are coming to an end also. The way companies are treating you in everyway, you are being reduced to, Precarious Proletariat, formerly known as Proletariat. Yes they call us Precariat, for short and as of this time every developped country has about 20% of the population in this "class" and growing very fast.
In US one only has to look around regular neighborhoods and even leafy suburbs to see what is going on and what went wrong. And it will get even worse, unless you stand up for yourselves and organize. Read some of the works of Dr. N. Chomsky to fully understand what the capital and the govt is doing to you. It is simply shocking. And why are they getting away? Because they think the population is so stupit and brainwashed (this is the main goal of your education system) that they will never understand what is being done to them. So in other words they will fuck you till you are reduced to nothing, but serf of the 18 & 19 century.
Worse, this is all done under the guise of DEMOCRACY, when in fact you have CORPRATISM with corporations controling everything. Yes absolutely everything.
So either organize rise up or simply get fucked for ever.

How can this be? If one reads this thread and most other threads, one comes to the conclusion this company is a nasty, ugly, bad, no good, evil and so on, place to work for. This even if only 5% of what is commented here were true. But it is not. Most of it is true, perhaps 99%.
At the same time, according to Great Place to Work Institute (who the fuck would invent such an entity, but it does exist), your company, Nofartus or as they call it in Basel, Novartis AG, was recognized by this "institute" as amongst 25 best multinational employers in the world, to work for. Can you fucking believe this? Or as Elain of Seinfeld fame would say, IT BE.
Personally what I experienced and what you are saying, I believe the truth, 99% of it. How about you?

Does Novartis bully their employees? yes

    Does HR know this? yes

Does HR do anything about it? No

Are complaints made to the BPO and HR? yes but nothing changes

Do employees go outside Novartis and get an attorney? Rarely - very rarely. If more would get an attorney and pursue legal action maybe they would take Bullying seriously.

Don't complain on Cafepharma - get an attorney!

A lawyer won't be able to help unless you document everything. Keep emails, keep a journal with dates. Create a file because without it, it's nothing more than a he said/she said situation and everyone knows that the big dog (Novartis) wins.

The worst bullying by far occurs at NIBR Basle - every day and all are aware of it. The bullies have been named and are well known to HR. HR does have a hard time covering things up and they are working extra hours. It's just a matter of time until ...

Primary Care is as well! A conspiracy of Management and HR to silence or punish those that stand up for themselves.

Talk about bullying in PC BU. There is a person on the leadership team that has been told that she has too heavy of an ethnic dialect when speaking English to be effective. She is extremely smart and better qualified than most on the team, but she is being held back from career advancement. As a result, she has been pressured to go a speech therapist to work on her English pronunciation. Has anyone ever head Nikos talk? He's all over the place and I can't understand him half of the time.

The horrible bullying is enforced by the current head of NIBR Basle - it is the only management style he knows and the only way how he can stay in power, hiding his incompetence in drug development, science and at moral level.
