It will be a major pain in the ass, but to get by do the following:

drink heavily starting shortly after the day's meetings end
clap like a cray cray motherfucker at all of the bullshit management speaks in the meetings
work in a wank or two when roommate is out of the room
try not to go into a coma

That's BS. Last time I had a roommate they did coke in the bathroom. They are opening themselves up for major lawsuits. They never learn. And treat us like fucking adults. We aren't jr high kids at camp. Ugh

I can't believe they would be so stupid and ignorant to have roommates in this day and time. Law suit waiting to happen. Wake up HR!!!

You guys HR department must be to dumb to take into the huge lawsuit a couple of years back against Pepsi for this very thing - night terrors and the guy beat his roommate to a pulp with a lamp and finished him off with a iron. Your company deserves to get it handed to them.

Are you paying for all 24 hours of their time while they are on travel? In other words, do you take their salary, divide it by 2080, multiply that effective hourly rate by 1.5 (for overtime) and 16 additional hours per 24 to properly compensate them for the elimination of their private time? For a 60K/yr salaried employee, this should amount to an additional $692.31 per night for each of the two employees sharing the room.

If you must save money, consider setting a per-diem meal rate that you can live with and let the employee choose whether to eat at an expensive restaurant or get something from the grocery store.

Oh yes–do I get to inquire about the sexual preference of my potential roommate, or would that be a real hornet’s nest?

At my previous company we had roommates and I told my manager I am going to pay out of pocket for my own room. HR found out and gave me my own room. Try it.

I never had a roommate until we became Novartis. I often had to room with someone I did not even know. It is the most de-humanizing thing that can be done, especially if there is going to be any testing, etc
