Considering that unresolved FDA quagmire, CEO Joe Kiani's glowing reviews about himself and his company, specifically in regard to patient safety, seem unfounded. Here's what we do know:
"Diana Zuckerman, an expert on medical devices and president of the National Center for Health Research, reviewed the FDA's findings and Masimo's response at ProPublica's request. She said it appears that Masimo is 'not taking the care to investigate their own possible malfunctions.'
Zuckerman added that she found it striking that Masimo disputed most of the complaints and 'particularly troublesome' that the company challenged a complaint that involved questions about whether a Masimo device properly set off an alarm before a patient died.'"

Our deepest regrets that Joker is unavailable to respond to this concern or others. He is combing his hair in the mirror, and will be gazing upon himself indefinitely except during naps. Please leave a message at the beep, and one or more of his lawyers will be out to see you shortly.

Real champions of patient safety and/or responsible corporate citizens in compliance with pt safety regulations will always err on the side of caution and thoroughly investigate reported malfunctions. What's Masimo erring on the side of exactly? It certainly does not appear to be caution.

who could have predicted masimo's arrival to the junior dance and kiani's fall from grace? I would have thought the latter to happen first and much sooner, and the former not to happen at all or much later. I'm happy for both especially the latter.

How unsettling for Masimo Founder and CEO Joe Kiani to insists he's all about patient safety, when his company has consistently failed to comply with the most basic patient safety related statutes and regulations. Given his insistant stance on the subject of safety and position in the community, this guy should be held to the highest of high standards, yet won't be be held to the lowest of low. When will he be held accountable for his company's non-compliance?

The FDA is like Mother Nature: passive, with the authority to unleash when disrespected. (Just ask Joe.)
"If the FDA discovers that an applicant has submitted false or misleading information, the FDA may refuse to review submissions until certain requirements are met pursuant to its Application Integrity Policy."

Is why just about every masi device since SpHb has been confined to third world, CE mark and international release only. Hokeyjoe done earned himself a spot on fda's domestic no-fly list. May his foolish example serve as a deterrent to other liars and scamartists.

"Masimo Corporation hired four major law firms, deployed dozens of lawyers, spent millions and millions of dollars, and took every appeal including one to the U.S. Supreme Court — all in an effort to overturn a $5.3 million arbitration award, finding MASIMO HAD FORCED ITS SALESPEOPLE TO SELL A DEFECTIVE DEVICE (SpHb)THAT ENDANGERED PATIENT SAFETY." However the U.S. Supreme Court put an end to Masimo's vexatious litigation tactics aimed at vacating the award."

"Joe Kiani made annual payments of $315,000 to Bill Clinton for speaking engagements until 2014 . Although the former president has since graciously waived this annual fee for Kiani, another of Kiani's foundations has since graciously contributed $2.5 million to the Clinton Foundation.
'That’s a lot of money. You wonder if it’s a way to legally channel money to a candidate,' said Beth Waldron, a patient safety advocate and consultant in Chapel Hill, N.C. Kiani said he resents any implication that he’s trying to buy access to promote his company."

Companies whose products and services aren't suitable for growing consumer demand organically may opt for growing it artificially. This can be accomplished expeditiously by networking with appropriate authorities who for a negotiable fee or the equivalent, can "standardize" a company's products & services via sole source contracting and the like.
