I quit my last 2 pharma jobs because of the manager. The first one was a new, 1st time manager and was a Nazi - total control freak! Fortunately I was interviewing and ready to move on when the company did a re-org and I was put on a team that had just been created with the D-bag as my new DM. Only had to work for him a few weeks as I was in final round of interviews with the new company. A week before I gave notice, after I accepted the offer with the new company, the dude tries to pull a last-minute surprise ride-along. The week before he had called me out of the blue at 8am one day and interrogated me about when and where I had been making my calls (and yes, I had been making calls). Keep in mind that I hadn't even met the guy yet - he had only been my manager for 2 weeks and we had only communicated by email and a brief phone call prior to my interrogation. I was a hard worker, had won president's club the year before, and I was just coming off a quarter where I exceeded my goals. I don't know what this guy was thinking, but I did learn about his psycho reputation. Anyway, once I accepted the offer with the new company I had the control. I refused to ride with him. He blew up on me during a phone call - apparently he was not used to hearing the word "No." I reported him to HR who opened up an investigation - he already had an HR file of complaints from two reps before me who he pressured out. After my reporting him to HR, he no longer communicated with me. I then submitted my 2-week notice and used some of my remaining sick time on the way out. When I went to the new company I thought my new manager would be cool - she turned out to be not so cool. Even though I was working hard and my sales were increasing month to month she did not like the fact that I, and a couple others on my team, had not hit quota by the end of our 2nd quarter in the field. She pressured us and put us on plans. One day she would be all "Rah, Rah! You can do it! The numbers will come" and the next day she would give you a total beat-down. Crazy! One of my teammates who had been on a plan soon left - landed another gig. I continued to work under pressure and fearing for my job for months until I was finally able to secure another gig and left. I hope that 3rd time is a charm and that my new manager is cool - he does have a good reputation and seems cool. Time will tell... But this industry is filled with terrible managers. It's a crap shoot as to whether or not you get a decent manager. Sucks!

Dumb comment the person is right there are so many bad managers. Look at the MS division ABLs have turned their teams over 2-3 times.

I can see Matt not wanting to admit he made a bad hiring decision but Vince inherited him.Vince not making a much needed change it shows weakness and lack of management ability.

Vince will not stop Ed and the other horrible ABLs from micromanaging the reps. 2 day field rides every 3 weeks is wrong. My customers are sick of this.

Vince is a nice guy but he has no substance. Quoting songs and being a rah rah cheerleader does nothing in the sense of leadership. The phone game? WTF was that all about.... come on, either hire good people who work, don't need baby sitting and know the disease state, etc..... oh, wait! They all left......ring, ring. 'Hi, Ed here, tell me about our MOA".... need I say more. This BU is done, stick a fork in it...... resume locked and loaded. Now to put my fake calls in for the week......

Since so many people have left this company the quality of the sales force has dropped significantly.Replacing the reps, who went to better opportunities, with reps with lesser MS experience has made the MSBU into a failure.Hiring reps who are "yes men" does not help the customer or increase sales. With all the disfunction in the MSBU I don't understand how leadership can allow massive employee turnover. It's fine if 1 or 2 reps leave in an area.If 1/2 leave it's a red flag. But when almost the entire team leaves, some territories multiply times, and this isn't flagged as a serious issue leaves many remaining employees question leaderships willingness to correct obvious problems.Problems which should have been handled under Matt but were ignored and still being ignored today. What will be the MSBU turnover in 2017?

would be amazing if everyone she hired and everything she put in place was dismantled, otherwise this area will implode at bonus payout timt

I have to agree with you. Managers usually come and go but why is it the crappy ones that always hang on? I have had to go to HR because of manager harassment and they always take the words of the manager. Hey HR news flash...just because a manager has been one for years doesn't mean they are good at it!
You could be selling dog crap but if you have a good motivational manager, you will do well and enjoy your job. I don't understand why managers in this industry "are out to catch you or get you" with something. Its so stupid! How about you be an advocate for your team and what them to do well. Ive never seen anything like it.

Hit the nail on the head. Thinks he's a HS coach/fraternity brother and that's how he treats his reps. So lame.
