Open questions to any spine rep. Medtronic or other.
Just how busy are you? How many surgeries are you covering in an average week and how is your time split between sales calls and case coverage?
I notice that some reps are working all the time and others seem to have quite a bit of time to golf, ski, vacation etc.

100% commission job so if not in a case not earning money with metal. Those golfing, skiing, or spending time fishing and at their beach houses are called managers.

To be an effective manager you should be in cases 4 days per week. Contracting and HR matters can be handled by HQ.

Life in spine is non-existent if you have a level 1 trauma center. Be careful what you wish for. Phone is on 24/7. Commission with Spine is low and if pricing is bad at your hospitals then you're working more than any other rep for peanuts. Get the right pricing and type if accounts and it can be decent. Know you're area and the details and make the decision from facts not what you see or assume. Keep in mind managers recruiting will tell you there's a pot of gold and lie to get you on.

Utilize your internal resources for help if you need. Document everything and record your conversations. There is an EAP resource you can call and ethics hotline also.

    Ethics hotline?
Surely, they don't care if the field sales people are over worked and lied to by their managers.

Yeah. If you think for a second that the Ethics office, the Ombudsman or the HR dept is there to serve you, you are naive. They are not going to help or protect you, they are there to protect the firm. If you have an issue, bury it or leave. Your voice is not valued, and worse, would likely be used against you.

You might be right, but a lot of stuff is about to be exposed in my state. I went to ethics office and other internal higher ups with nothing. I was silenced and ultimately had to resign. Ready to set my lawyer loose. I am writing a hell of a book I can tell you that. Managers are off the charts unethical and thats just the starting point.

Be careful, because the law is not on your side, just like HR and complete are not. I am not with Medtronic, but I left two companies in a row because of shady practices. Management, HR and compliance all did nothing.
