The worst has to be SS at Otsuka. No personality, sold his soul to commercial, doesn't show any respect or empathy for his group.
So true!! I couldn’t get away from that hot mess fast enough! She is one of the faves and rats out all of her team and colleagues to the boss.
Medical Affairs managers at Otsuka seem to be in cahoots with sales division. In my opinion, shady characters who operate to please/increase Sales. To keep their inflated income and move up the chain? Path of least resistance at this company since there is no one protecting the integrity of med affairs being unbiased? They can try to rationalize all they want (“collaboration” for “patients”) but they seem to continue to damage any credibility that was left for their MSLs by unofficially using them as field sales reps. Huge percentage of MSLs jumped ship last year after CEM and title changes were announced. I respect the people that left to take the high road.
heard they used to have a respectable medical integrity but their MA leadership has become aligned with commercial. Sad. MSLs turning into sales reps.
Still an issue. Under SS and RM there was a MASSIVE exodus of MSLs in H2 2021 and H1 2022. Ones staying are a lot of naive new hires and sleazy old guards who are busy being proud promo pawns. Credibility and trust continues to be lost in the ecosystem collaboration for patients (AKA prescriptions $$$). Otsuka MSLs give PROMOTIONAL presentations to 1-4 attendees (1 HCP if lucky and 3 staff) at lunches with 1-2 sales people in the same room. It’s laughable. Why didn’t SS protect the integrity of medical? Why did he get more and more cozy with commercial? $$$$$
So who are some of the good MSL leaders who haven’t sold their soul? Let’s share some positive opinions too!!!
A problem is that sales people ask the MSLs that are the most sales-y to do their programs. It’s like when they choose prescribers to speak. If the speaker diminishes risks of the drug, they get used again as a “good” speaker. If they are more fair balanced, stick to the science and don’t do as much cheerleading they don’t get used as much or at all.
unless they are ordering writing a ton of the reps product or are a truly respected huge draw for attendees. Then they may be kept. But yea conflict of interest happens at some companies more than others.
Lauren Few was the worst manager at Avanir now Otsuka. They even took her direct reports at the new acquisition. I'm trying to understand how she is a lesbian and prejudice? She mishandled minorities that worked under her and almost got a lawsuit.
