Due to a shortage of regional personnel, have you not been able to use the vacation you have earned

  1. Yes, I have been unable to use my earned time off

  2. No, I have used all my vacation due to full staffing/ ASCs and TAs in our region

I'm posting a poll to see if I'm the only one this applies to: has anyone (current or past Synthes) not been able to go on vacation due to lack of personnel to provide overlapping case coverage?

For example, I was out "on an island" once 2 people left our region, and they were not replaced. Instead, their territories were given to the DePuy distributorship- who made it clear that they were running their own show. Nobody in my region wanted to or could cover my territory because it was a far drive and would leave their territories in a bad position. The ASCs in the region were not made available to me, and therefore I could not leave for ANY vacation. We were told by management that we were responsible for obtaining case coverage, and if we just left for vacation it would be considered abandoning our territory and could lead up to termination.

When I separated from the company, I asked to be paid for vacation that was earned but that I was prevented from taking due to company short staffing the region. I was told no, that you use it or lose it. There is no exception for being prevented from using that earned benefit.

I'm reaching out to see if anyone else has had a similar situation and how it was handled.

    Thank you-

i was on vacation 2500 miles away from my territory. I obtained coverage and received a call from my distributor that I had to come back to cover my territory because we were now short. So I left my pregnant wife with her mother and came back, only to find out the reason I had to come back was so my distributor could play golf. After 12 years only took 1 full week of vacation a year while others took more. Do not expect anything to be fair. I left within 6 months took 4 million in business with me. I hope it was a good round of golf.

when i left, a bit over a year ago (best move ever by the way), I was paid out my vacation time. It was based off the stupid 70K floor/draw that they implemented but it was something. This company is lost and has been for a while. It is so obvious when you move through a region, that all the consultants are miserable and the hospitals are tired if the BS and games that DS plays (I left to become a RM for another company). Good luck...dont be the last one left!

Something is going on. I had an offer from a distributor who has now pulled it off the table. It went from urgently needing an experienced person in an area to not being sure their direction. However the RVP who I also met with has reached out to me and has told me to be patient as some new plans are being hashed out. Maybe the grass isn't greener
