I am a mesh rep but not for Covidien...Atrium has some pretty decent products. Thier C-Qur mesh is pretty intriguing to some surgeons as it is the lightest mesh on the market. Additionally, their omega-3 fatty acid barrier is liked by some because it is considered "all-natural." Besides that product, their current product line is pretty weak. They have a lightweight plug that has been on the market for nearly 8 years and gathered like 2% marketshare. That being said, their pipeline for mesh appears to be very, very strong. The omega-3 fatty acid adhesion barrier appears to be a great avenue for carrying medications, analgesics and antimicrobials. Later this year, they will probably be coming to market with the first drug coated mesh. Additionally, they should be releasing another lap ventral mesh soon as well as their umbilical patch, which has been tied up in court. Atrium mesh is relatively cheap but does not play well on the GPO contracts. If you have many HPG accounts or competitive contracts within hospital systems, good luck to you!

Atrium is not the most lightweight mesh on the market first of all. Secondly, many surgeons have had a cellulitis form after mesh implantation and have had to go back and remove the mesh. According to THEIR studies, this biological fatty acid coating has demonstrated a minimization of peritoneal tissue attachment as well as a significant reduction in both foreign body reaction and inflammation...YEAH and it sticks around for 3 to 6 months(its on their website!) days post op. Can you please tell me how that is good for a patient? Every other mesh I know of wants that peritoneal tissue regrown within 2 weeks...you know for them to actually heal...

You Idiot....Covidian once again has demonstrated their ignorance in the mesh market. The minimalization of peritoneal attachment is referring to adhesions...not repertitonealization. You are trying to claim that omega 3's prevent the pertioneam from reforming, and this is just not true.

Cqur sucks, I agree. But what your claiming is false.

BTW, I don't work for CQur

I meant that while that was a positive benefit to the product, the major downfall being that C-qur does not allow tissue ingrowth for the first 10 days while 80% of the tissue ingrowth is accomplished in the first 2 weeks (iannitti, etc.) That my friend is in fact true and I do NOT work for Covidien

Don't forget to ask how they get paid, what is the hospital or surgery center getting paid vs. what they paid for the product. Surgeons know about this stuff, because their admins are in their face when there is a large diff b/ cost and payment.
