Hi, I'm a recent college grad looking into getting into devices. Currently in Pharma as an account coordinator/project manager. I have been contacted about a call with a recruiter for Stryker about a navigation support specialist position. If anyone has any insight into what this position entails on a day to day basis, pay, growth potential, career path, I would greatly appreciate it.

what exactly does an account coordinator do? not sure it will translate to success at stryker.

Regardless of my current position (a first job post graduation) I asked those questions because I was unsure of a few things. Not to correlate my theoretical success at Stryker based on a position I've been at for a short period of time.

But to answer your question, I am the sole client contact and technical resource for what projects they currently have going on in our facility. I also communicate with our BD reps to ensure the client relationship is steady, growing, and what issues can be addressed, whether relationship or technical (lab information based)

This is the main description of the job with Stryker I had asked about

"The Navigation Support Specialist provides expertise in the operating room at hospitals with Stryker Navigation products. The Support Specialist will be the first line of communication for Stryker’s customers while coordinating Navigation field service events/cases and addressing technical and operational issues with Navigation products."

Thank you for any info about this position/the questions I addressed.

Looks like you'll fit right in, an ego bigger then a blonde med device reps a$$hole with nothing to back it up. Come on kid, this is navigation, and STRYKER... Clem the F down it's a phone screen with HR..

I'm sorry you took that comment that way, I was just trying to answer the question to try to clear up the initial questions I asked. I didn't have the intention of getting berated just by asking a few questions about a job position.

nobody in device sales says "I'd like to get told to screw off today" by the people they call on. Its the reality of the job though. If your skin isn't thick enough to take some abuse from anonymous strangers online, how will you do in the field? It's not as glamorous as you think.

Yes, I understand that. I am just curious about people's opinion on navigation especially within Stryker. Especially in a "support" role and not "ASR". Like what was said earlier, it is simply just a phone screen with a recruiter, so it's really nothing, I just am trying to learn as much as I can about the position overall.

A Navigation Support Specialist is basically there to support cases when needed and provide break/fix type solutions for an account. You'd be responsible for training the OR staff and answering any questions that the surgeon may have.

Stryker Nav is ok...it's definitely 3rd in the market behind Medtronic and BrainLab. Speaking honestly, I'm not sure it's a division that Stryker really puts a ton of resources into. But if you have no OR experience and are looking to gain some, it's not a bad place to start. Not sure it guarantees you a sales position down the road with Stryker, but like anything, do your job well and network and opportunities will present themselves.

Thank you for the info. I agree that's what I'm seeing, that Nav is a division that doesn't get a ton of resources and isn't the most popular division within Stryker. I'm glad to hear from a few people it's a position that has good experience possibilities.
