There are so many managers like that in NBS IT. Anyone who actually tries to deliver something innovative or new to the business is roadblocked, shutdown and lately included in layoffs (which is actually a blessing)

Rob James was a classic example of someone who knew how to play the system. He claimed to have a passion for healthcare, but in truth never really understood the business; in fact he didn't really understand IT. He was an effective showman, talking big, cascading responsibility for his mistakes down to the people he got rid of and appearing to populate his leadership teams with diversity and talent whilst staying loyal to his cronies. He jumped ship successively from the USA and Pharma before he got found out, and left his successor a shit heap to sort out, poor Mary.

He simply didn't follow his own logic and stayed as Corporate CIO too long. Maybe he was just hanging in there to get offered something like the position of Pfizer CIO, but frankly most people outside Novartis could see him for what he was. Things finally caught up with him and the Novartis Leadership team finally saw him for what he was too. A lightweight. An emperor with no clothes.

But what is it with Novartis and Group CIOs? They haven't had a competent corporate CIO since the company was formed, although with the last three, culminating in Rob James, the level of incompetence was on a stupendous scale. You just have to believe that Novartis CEOs and CFOs just don't get IT or don't care.

Wonder how long before his sycophants follow him - especially the rest of the Novartis trash?
