Can anyone tell me what an Academic Account Manager does? The person in my area is a complete waste of space. While walking to an office last Friday I saw her drinking on a bar patio at 1PM in her work clothes. Tough job. My next question is, how can I get a job like that. I mean one with no accountability.

First you need to ask yourself why you're not drinking at 1pm on a Friday and why this AAM was wearing work clothes on at all. Start with that.

The next answer is become a GSR, MSR, DM, KAM, RD or apparently even VP at Alcon.

Final answer...if you can't get one of those jobs go home and hit your parents in the face.

There are a lot of wastes of space there. Just an idea but try focusing on you and who cares what she's NOT doing. If she doesn't have enough to do it will come to surface soon enough. Then you can feel grateful for a job again because you who has time to worry about said girl are obviously not a waste of space. I mean, you're busy.

I hope the AAM's are safe in all these cuts. Good people on the team. They work there asses off to get our products into academic accounts.

Thanks AAM team for for supporting yourselves. I hope you truly believe this because no one else in the company does. BTW, what academic institutions have you got our products on formulary that weren't already in in the first place? Also, if there are any wins for you, is because of you or Novartis' "give it away" pricing?

Well thanks for chiming in Mr. Negative, say have you seen Richard? Because if you have and he's so good maybe he'd like to try to selling.

Sounds like somebody is jealous and can't get an AAM role. So sorry.

No shit I want an AAM role. Zero accountability, zero work effort and all the glory. Oh and according to the AAM in the West...all the booze you can drink during work hours.
Hell yes I want an AAM role.

AAM & KAM possibly the best roles in the company. It's the old school pharma life.

What exactly do the KAMs or have done to justify their expansion?

Nothing. That's the point, best job ever. Zero accountability b/c they sell nothing and there's no way to track any benefit of their efforts on actual sales. MBOs and # of events held. Cake walk. Typical Novartis mindset. Get that position.

Glad to see the AAM's are moving market share with simbrinza in the VA's. Oh wait it's the only drug Alcon has on formulary in the VA and only combination therapy. For that they get a week in key west. I'm curious how this role is a justified expense with little to no return.
