Just curious if this company shuts down between Xmas and new years? Thanks!

Nope, you need to take vacation/personal days around the one Christmas holiday.

So what do you guys get for vacation/personal/sick days and is that negotiable? If I came over then I would be losing a week of vacation- in the scheme of life not a big deal, but my husbands family is located in another country and we need the time for traveling there with our kids, etc. Any advice?

    Negotiate for more vacation.

Just take your own personal shut down that week. Nobody works and doctors don't want to see us so just shut it down

Like hell. I'm off for the holidays and no one is the wiser. Working is a waste of time.
My manager flies cross country to see his mommy for the holidays. What's good for him is good for me.

Try moving to the other country, problem solved.
We don't need your kin in our country. 'Merica!

this company is trying but failing to be like a true biotech including the benefits side of the equation. A former colleague who is at Genentech gets basically the last two weeks off separate from regular vacation, their health benefit contribution is 20% less than the same plan here and after 5 or 6 years, they get a 6 week sabbatical.......

I will agree with you that BMS is missing a bit on the benefits side compared to other companies. The health insurance is one of the worst that I have seen in the industry. The vacation is also behind the times as you pinter out. I was surprised coming on board at the benefits, I expected mush better.

As a guy who can't spell check four lines of text, you were hardly likely to have checked the job offer out were you? Your life must be full of surprises!

This company is run by accounting, anything that costs and lowers eps, is totally expendable.

will we get this again this year?

Probably not. Even though many other companies have a shut down every year, BMS is too cheap to make this a standard practice. But if you are a new hire you can get 4 or 5 weeks vacation anyway to start. Company is more generous with new hires than loyal employees.

Planning for end of year. Are we getting this off again?
