Non-compete-will it hold or not

I recently got a call from a regional manager asking if I could join their team at zimmer after a current contract is finalized that my current competitive company is walking from, because of pricing being too low. My current company had me sign a non-compete and now Zimmer wants me to ask my employee if they'd release me from my non-compete. At this time my current employer told me not to worry and to focus on products outside of the contract and try for carve outs. At this point my two account are being affected and Zimmer will be on and we walked, so it would be very nice to be on Zimmer's side, since my company walked. I'm afraid to ask my manager if they'll release me as I feel he would, but my current employer will say no. Has anyone dealt with anything similar and any advice as to how to approach my current company or ways to fight them if they won't release me?

the contracts I have personally seen go through legal have all kinds of holes in them. Z is trying to bully their way through this. everyone's contract and deal is different so you have to have them reviewed in detail. One thing they don't want you to know is all the precedents they have allowed and continue to. find those by testing the system with your attorney. They're there and you can beat them
