How many jobs/careers do you think Pfizer is responsible for terminating in the last 10 years with all their takeovers? My guess is at least 500,000 jobs-maybe close to a million. Think about it-it's not just sales. Manufacturing, research, distribution, sales, IT, all those plant closings, back office, janitorial, management, etc. The list goes on. Every takeover they have done means a few hundred thousand people are cut for "synergy". What a great company! How about doing some research and grow that way. F*kn parasite.

Pfizer is not responsible for employing the masses of people in this country or continuing to do so.

May be a little different this time around. In order for this deal to happen Pfizer had to agree to cut a proportionate number of Pfizer reps as well as Allergan reps to get this deal done with Allergan. As a Pfizer rep it makes me a little more nervous this time around, just hope that I will be one of the fortunate ones who will still be around from Pfizer this time next year.

Pfizer is the most irresponsible, greedy, mismanaged company in Pharma. When you're ass is in the unemployment line, you'll be singing a very different tune.
Pfizer has done little to nothing in bringing new drugs to the world. They bought all their blockbuster drugs that were already successful and destroyed the companies that made them successful. They are the poster child for all that is wrong with Pharma. The only thing they are good at is buying their business.

You are correct, though. No company is responsible for employing people. Pfizer just has a very shitty way of maintaining its profit margins. That's capitalism, but I think 30 to 40 billion in profit is enough to keep the greedy stockholders....and I am one....happy without unnecessarily ruining so many lives.

Starting with the Warner-Lambert acquisition through Pharmacia, Wyeth and King, Pfizer has laid off just over 100,000 people. Since Brent Saunders has so much influence in the new enlarged Pfizer there will be more layoffs on the legacy Pfizer side than previously anticipated. It will surely be ugly (again).

But Americans don't vote for policies that create good jobs so they don't deserve any sympathy. Enjoy all your guns when you're unemployed. It was your choice.....

This is an absolute fact. Saunders would not allow this "merger" to take place without the guarantee from Pfizer corporate that a similar number of reps from both sides of each company are downsized if & when this does have to happen. May not have to cut back on very many or it could be a dramatic downsizing, only time will tell.

The masses of reps are unnecessary and very costly. The sad truth is the economy continues to be outsourced by big pharma and there are less and less jobs.

My manager told me that he has been hearing the same thing from higher ups, so even he said he is a little nervous about his job security with this Allergan deal.

Don't panic; sometimes weird things happen. Everyone will have to wait and see and if you have to go and look you do that. But one never knows things sometimes have a strange way of playing out.

You're right. The analogy is travel agents. Everyone used to get airline tickets through them. Now we can do that on the web without any human contact. Probably 80% of travel agents lost their jobs. Specialty agents remain for stuff like cruises. Same for pharma sales - every doctor can look on the web - the information is all there. No need for probably 80% of sales reps. We've been replaced by technology. Time to get real jobs. Unfortunately they will be twice the work for half the pay.

Brent is not going to be kind to legacy Pfizer reps. Let's hope the layoff packages don't get reduced.

He will not be the only "say" in the deal.

Payback is a bitch. Pfuck Pfizer and the horse it rode in on. Hope they can us all so we can get on with our lives. I hate this f&c$ing company and won't leave without my severance.
P.S. I've been double dipping for a year.

You may actually get your wish this time. There will be thousands of Pfizer reps that will have to be cut in order to make room for the Allergan reps that will have to be kept in order to fulfill the agreement with Allergan to keep a certain percentage of Allergan reps or the deal would not go through.

    Pfizer blows.
And the reps still drinking the Kool Aid from Pfizer are truly the dumbest people on the face of the planet, yet they still exist…unbelievable.

    FU PFIZER!

Put it into perspective. There just aren't that many of us anymore. And we are still trying to fill positions left open for months. We have agreements with co promotes that require us to fulfill our obligations. Remember the BMS fiasco at launch? We didn't have enough reps to even hit our minimum requirements.
Also, Allergan is in disease states we have never been in before. There is little if any overlap in products save for a few. I believe they have more reps than we do.
    Let's not start this already.

There is no voice of reason, when it comes to laying people off, just value to the stockholders.
