I am exploring opportunities in Mahwah and wanted to get a feel for the environment there. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Very nice town, very short distance from NYC up in Bergen County. Very good public school system but real estate is expensive there. Not sure where you're moving from but you'd be hard pressed to do better in Northern NJ. Stop by Kinchley's Pizza while you're there.

Sorry. I was referring to headquarters. What's the work environment at Mahwah headquarters?

SYK Mahwah is a formal, Highly professional atmosphere. If you have polish, are good in your role and most of all, are politically savvy, then you will be successful. However, if you make a political blunder, be advised that your career could be cut short, regardless of how well you perform.

That said, lots of talent, great products and great benefits. It's a world class organization great place to work.

Agree that it is extremely political in Mahwah. Became more political in 2011/2012 after old leader left and new leadership took over.

Trauma morale is better than Recon morale. IT has many issues to work out. Lots of very unhappy people, especially older, more experienced workers...I think that's a function of having to deal with more BS from political leadership and lack of direction/leadership in certain areas. If your young, you should like it until you don't get promoted in a timely manner because we are all A types here and need to be promoted regularly or we bail:). Check out glass door for reviews. Stryker is rated well but I would not rate Mahwah as high.

What area are you looking into?

I have a Quality and Regulatory background. Saw some jobs in those areas for which I am qualified.

Sorry, not sure what the climate is like over in that department. Anyone else on the board know?

I would concur with this and the previous post about the climate in Mahwah. You can do better and worse.

Some really good, hard working, bright people in most areas here in Mahwah. Some old timers in manager/leadership positions that need to go.

Good products in Recon. Lots riding on Mako...we'll see, I hope it does well.

We are big on Gallup Q12 Engagement survey here. If you don't get a good Q12 score, you could be in trouble. I've heard of instances where a poor Q12 score was brought up in a review. Problem with this method is that you may have annoyed one of your subordinates (like not giving an employee a promotion they think they deserved - see above) and they screw you on this survey. On the other hand, I've heard of employees giving their manager great scores to avoid doing impact plans.

I would also add that, imo, it is a classic "boys club" leadership style at the top and the leader is a used car salesman with short man's/Napoleon complex...yeah, I'm not a big fan.

Not sure if you are still looking or maybe in Q and R already but from what I know and see, line managers and below are good, smart, hard working people. Senior leadership is very dysfunctional, especially the additions over the last several years. They really need a refresh starting with the head of the department.

Totally agree. Quality people but Management needs to be flushed. Especially Sales. Old Dysfunctional and out of touch with the field. Shake up needed but KZoo does nothing.

Sales and Marketing need reboot. This Mistako thing is a joke out here in the field. Leadership in those ares perceived as a joke.

I see 2 RA specialist positions, one t and e, 1 recon, available in mahwah. Can anyone provide insight on the positions (salary, growth potential, leadership assesment)? I know this is a sales rep sight but am hoping regulatory people in mahwah read this and can answer.

I'd look at spine down the road if there are any positions available. Great leadership down there. In mahwah go with T & E. Avoid Recon.

Yep...q12 time again. Managers taking teams out for team functions and telling them what a great job they are doing...same story every year. What a joke...

Recon quality and regulatory leadership is total dysfunction and toxic, starting at the top with cqr vp. Avoid at all costs. T and e or spine is the way to go.
