  1. I have been a dentist for 28 years and have frequently prescribed zovirax cream for my patients who have an outbreak of herpes simplex on and around the mouth. I recently had a 18 year old son in his first semester of college who had an outbreak of herpes on his lip. I wrote a prescription for Zovirax cream 5g tube and was told by my pharmacy the price was $3000. We do not have a prescription plan with our health insurance. My wife found a RX coupon for 75% savings and was told it would be $750. Unbelievable and why? Please comment as I did not get this for my son. How abhorrent. I will no longer be able to prescribe this for my patients with or without prescription plans. Please comment Thank you

This product was sold to Valeant years ago, so you may want to check with them. Per the previous poster, I believe this product is now available as a generic, so you might want to use that as an alternative.

We are GSK - don't tell us how to price our products. We know better.

You may want to give Abreva a try. It's ~$15 for a 2-gram tube. No Rx required, since it's OTC.

Valtrex was approved like ten years ago for HSV1. That is also generic. Don't make the kid put ointment on his mouth multiple times a day.
