Let me know the name of those companies who have achieved a healthy work/life balance in their field sales force. I'd like to find one.

    Political hires. Political promotions.

BS., BS., BS., and more piling on. We are delivery/caterers, nothing more. Treated like kids/robots. No respect from anyone, including from each other.
I hope to be out in six mos.

The stress of delivering lunches and samples is overwhelming me. I need a promotion to one of those cushy East Coast jobs - $150,000 a year for brown-nosing and a couple of people reporting to me who can do the real work.

Ass kissing 5 to 10 entire offices all day long does take a lot out of you. Many couldn't handle it. Especially the manager ride alongs if you have a prick DBM. But, it's still easier than most sales' jobs.

As for the $150k east coast job, with the disgusting cost of living there due to the marxist demoncrats in charge, it's like making $35k anywhere else. Except for Commiefornia, of course.

Hmmm, let me see, layoffs every 1yr or 18 months since 2005, Access going away with the ever changing healthcare environment, Me Too products, pathetic marketing dept that look at spreadsheets instead of the Field feedback, political promotions, DBM's that need to "Validate" their jobs instead of the districts business interests because we all know their feedback every 3 or 4 weeks is invaluable, a company bent on political correctness instead of performance based decisions because we don't want any "Labels", incorrect hires that push the quality reps out because they don't bring in any past performance reviews and I could go on and on. Put your time and in, collect a check and when its time to go cash that severance bitch!!!

Absolutely! Whether you work for any major pharma company the stress and pressure are the same. If you have hot, new products the impatience on sales is unbelievable. Once the sales come and grow it is never fast enough or enough. When you are out of here and look back it will also seem so insignificant in the scope of your life. A total waste of time but the $ was nice.

its really not that bad. Only the people pushing for promotions they can't get are really stressed out.

The process to get promoted is insane. Lots of sucking up and ass kissing. Constantly trying to be in the old boys club is tiring. Doing practically anything but your actual job is the secret to getting promoted. Pretending to be the boss shows the boss that you could be the boss. It's insane. There's no pathway to promotion, no development program like at other companies. Just plenty of ass kissing, doing menial work outside of the job or instead of the job.

That is stressful. But it guarantees that mostly clones of clones get elevated. And talk like this here. This is a sure fire way to not get anything ever.

Stress? What do you know about stress?

Does your manager have the ability to pop in and listen in on your doctor visits any time she wants? No. Can they just show up on a field ride unannounced, and demand to be taken to the busiest office across town? No.

Does the majority of your income depend on your ability to hit some arbitrary sals number, one that moves around willy-nilly a few times a year (based on some "black box" formula?) No.

Do you sell products that no one has ever heard of, and/or have to get a PO before you get paid?

Are our products brand new, and do we have to get them to a certain market share BEFORE WE GET PAID? No.

Can your manager switch an hihh-prescribing account (i.e. doctor or clinic) away from you, and give it to her side-piece, just because she wants to make her side-piece happy? No.

Do you have to pay for lunches, dinners or gas out of pocket, and then HOPE that the company reimburses you 2 to 3 months later?

Is your salary under 50K, but you have potential to make 6 times that if you hit quota? Conversely, do you get put in a PIP if you don't hit call metrics 6 months after your start date, and terminated if you don't make quota in your first year? No

Stress? What do you all know about stress? We get paid six figures to "talk" (for 20 seconds at a pop) about products that our customers have a) used for years, b) read about/heard about for years. Our bonus is similar whether we're number 10, or number 50 in our regions.

These scenario were described to me by people that used to work here. But, by far the biggest complaint was the stress of working on contracts with a $65,000-$70,000 salary.

Almost every other pharmaceutical company has had a formal selection and development program for more than 15 years. We STILL have promotion by the good ole boy network, sprinkled with a minority here or there (after we get sued for the umpteenth time).

Good advice. The truth is we don't have real jobs and we're going to pay the price for living in that fantasyland........
