Can anyone give some info on the endoscopic position? I'm currenly in surgical sales making about 120k per year and am looking to make a move. How is the money in that division? How are the products compared to the competitors? Thanks.

Depends what part of the country. Stryker is cutting territories making it harder to make the big numbers. I would stay where your are at making $120 as Stryker will probably offer you $80k and a minimum 20% growth number to hit. They will entice you will full benefits though.

Money is obviously important but (as the above poster states) look deeper then that when making a job change; Company, territory, growth opportunties, products, R&D, etc...

Stryker is a market leader in Endoscopy.. They don't have the sports medicine implant/instrument "name" as Arthrex has but this division is a huge name in this arena as well as others enabling you to establish yourself both with the surgeon and just as important the hospital personnel..

$80k? Where are you getting that number? Helluva lot higher than that my friend, I'd expect more like $180k... but what do I know, only work for the division

I work for Stryker Endoscopy and we are 100% commission. That being said, we sell both disposable products as well as big capital equipment. Your daily "paycheck" or what you will survive off of without selling any capital, is the disposable base business products. Remember to ask what the base $s are per month in that territory to determine your monthly average paycheck. While working to increase your disposables and up your base, there are big capital projects you will work on for 6 months, a year, two years even. These are where your big paychecks come into play. My quota for last year was close to 3 million. After my big capital wins, bonus, a few incentives thrown out by our Manager, and my monthly base business I average about 230k. The burning question to ask during an interview is WHAT THE BASE does. That will help you to figure out the minimum amount you can make. We are a monster in the business. Don't be worried about R & D and whether or not we have strong products.

Anybody seen the Arthrex Synergy camera? Any feedback on how they are doing around the country?

Arthrex's system does have some limitations. However so does Stryker's crown jewel 1488. Massive problems with the new design on camera head in beginning. Then there were the recalls instituted being as they put 'doing the right thing for the customer" when in all reality it was covering their ass for the Neptune fiasco. In arthroscopies, namely shoulder cases, where a bur is used the CMOS technology produces a "ripple" effect on the image. The new SDC3 has many issues as well. Not all that its sold to be. Stryker thinks they have a game changer here, but not really. Quite simply - another 1080P camera.

The last post is exactly right. Stryker "thinks" they have a real game changer with the 1488. its just another 1080p camera. Stryker doesnt want to admit it but video is a commodity. Same as suction tubing. The SDC 3 is a big POS. System crashes, and useless gimmicks.

When you use CMOS image sensors your video is a commodity

Careful what you tell your customers, friend: within a year or two CCD is dead. Most of the majors will release a flagship CMOS camera within the next 6 months.

No kidding. If CMOS is a commodity, what is CCD?

It's just better quality! But who cares about that... Styker equipment is always subpar.

And with CMOS you get a great picture on the monitor when the bur gets close to the camera and all that can be seen is ripples. Real Nice!!!

What is the current pay with Endoscopy as a sales representative? I have heard that pay is decreasing in this division.

Adding more reps, territory splits, decreasing commission rates. a lot of reps seem to be leaving because of the lowering commission rates. in addition, you pay your own expenses out of pocket. so even if you make 180K, you probably have about 40K in expenses, so you really only make 140K.

True... I am currently employed by Endo. decreasing pay every year for the last 5-6 years, and you pay own expenses. Also, decreasing product bag... lots of signs of splitting into two divisions... or our arthroscopy products being carried by the sports med division instead, which further dereases the product bag.
    the gig is up

Not sure if this thread is still going - How much do sports med ASR's usually make?
